Good morning all

Not sure whether any one can help without pics but here goes

Just seen wondering across our work car park was a large Bird.
Similar in shape to a grouse but much bigger.
Dark brown in colour, dark green feathers around the head with a bit of red, almost like a pheasent in head colouration but short tail etc.

My first thought was grouse but I am sure they are much smaller then this bird.
Probably stood about 18-24 inches tall.

Tried to take a pic with phone but just got a brown blob.
Will have to keep my camera in the car:bang:

Bit of a long shot but does anyone have any suggestions?

Possibley a pheasant Robin
they are not all the Classic "ring-neck colour there are about ( I think) a dozen or so hybrid variations, various shades and colours

Thanks Chris:thumbs:

Not really sure, it did not have the long tail feathers that i would associate with a pheasant which is what threw me.

I shall have to keep my eyes peeled and see if i can get a picture

It was the size that threw me too

All a bit vague really, perhaps i ought to take more water with it!!

It could have had a close encounter Robin and lost part of it's tail, see a lot of birds with missing tail feathers.

Best from mike.

Also if it was an adult rather than this years youngster I may not have fininshed the moult,
a few feathers missing or not "all down" yet the center decks (longest middle feathers ) are generally the last to grow down
Oh and stay off on the gin :D
