Bio-ethanol fires v electric ones (also is it easy to remove skirting board)

Redcorating lounge and decided to put a fireplace in (wont be an expensive one, £200-£350 range). Was looking at an electric one, more for looks than as a source of heat, bit tempted by the real flame of bio ethanol, anyone got one and how do you rate it?

Will need to remove some of the skirting board this weekend due to new carpet going down on Monday, problem is that the wall has been wallpapered recently!) Having googled it it looks like the best way is to use a dremel to make 2 vertical cuts then chisel away (I am certain it is stuck on and seems pretty strong). Is it as simple as that and any tips to prevent chunks of plasterboard and wallpaper coming with it? There are some really nice electric fires now, we looked into this a few years ago and the problem is the heat efficiency of a gas fire is very poor, gas boilers are very efficient as they are better designed.
Also less hassle with a flue. We settled on a really nice electric real look fire and oak surround for about £300 and with it only needs a 13amp plug. We had it fitted into a fused spur just for looks and safety and we are amazed with it.
 
Mrs Nod's Mum has a little electric "fire". Plugs into a standard 13A socket and can be run as a 2 setting fan heater (with 2 speeds IIRC, as well as 2 heat settings), a 2 speed air moving fan - no heat and has a fire effect panel that can be switched independently of the fan/heater. Came from B&Q a couple of years ago. Fits back flush against a wall (or in her case, a blanked off chimney breast.)
 
If you use one of those multi tools (I have a Lidl one and it does what I want/need it to do and their blades work fine for my needs/wants at a fraction of the costs of Bosch ones.), use some offcut wall paper to protect the freshly hung walls from the heat generated by the friction when you hold it against the wall.
 
We have a gas fire, open flame. I quite like a proper wood fire when we're away.
The bio-ethanol fires are just burning mentholated spirits from a tank? Looks interesting.
 
I would research what the fuel you use is denatured with.
I would also make sure the room is well ventilated.
