Binocular mounting with 1/4 inch thread

Hi. I have a vintage pair of "Miranda" binoculars. In order to mount these on a tripod (the modern way), I will need to drill and tap the appropriate part of the binocular with a "1/4 inch screw thread". What would be the details for the tap I'd be using so that I can fit the modern binocular adapter mount having the 1/4 inch screw thread? Thank you. Rich P.S. Hope this post is kosher. :)

The "correct" thread for 1/4" tripod screws is 1/4" UNC but 1/4" Whitworth is often considered "close enough".

If you have a decent camera/binocular shop close to you, I'd pay them a visit and see what they have in the way of adaptors etc., you may find that there's a better way than drilling, tapping etc..

I have/had an old pair of Prinz (£5 at Dixons when I started birdwatching back in the early to mid 60's or so) that had a central pivot hinge.

At the time (during my usage of them) I bought a made for it clamp that attached to the central section and the end of the clamp knob it was threaded to mount on tripod/monopod.

Pack rat that I am I probably still have both somewhere......but no idea where!

I have yet to Google but if your binos are the same pattern... perhaps the clamp is still made/available???

PS I am none too sure whether there is anywhere on old or modern binos to drill a hole let alone tap one, without compromising their integrity!

PPS perhaps show us a few pictures to show the construction type?
