Anyone use a William Hills online sports account ?

I recently opened an online account with William Hill's . no problems all all until a couple of days ago when I tried to withdraw an amount from the account ( about £900 )

A short while later I received an email ( a genuine one too ) asking for the following details before they can process my withdraw request

In line with our standard security procedures, we would like to request that you provide us with the following documents so that we can verify your account:

1. Valid photo ID (such as a driving license or passport).

2. Utility bill such as electric, telephone or water, or a bank statement. Please ensure the document was issued within the last 6 months and shows the address that you have registered with us.

3. Copy of the front and back of the card ending (XXXX ) used to deposit to your William Hill account. Please ensure that the middle 8 digits on the front of the card and the 3 digit security code on the back are covered / obscured and that the back of the card is signed by the owner.

We encourage you to either scan or take pictures of your documents with a digital camera to ensure they are clear. If you are unable to do this yourself we would recommend doing so from a photo printing shop or Internet cafe. The documents must be legible and in colour.

The email is genuinely from Hill's ( I've triple checked ) and also used the " chat facility" on Hills website to confirm.

I'm not happy at all about this. I have accounts with the likes of Corals, Betfair, BetFred etc etc etc, and no issues at all about withdrawing. As I said to the guy I phoned at Hill's " basically what you are asking for is all the ingredients to steal my identity "

I *think* it's some EU legislation to stop money laundering.

I had a letter from First Direct asking me to have a Video chat and show them my Passport , all to prove who I am (I've banked / had a mortgage with them for 15 years )

its kosher, they are just checking the money is going to who its meant to...ie ...you

agreed though it does make the sphincter muscles twitch initially

It's to prevent money laundering. Welcome to the world. :D

Thanks for the replies. I'll get it sorted then. It sort of goes against everything we are ever told about our identity and security.

Seemed odd though for the same day I withdrew £2000 from a recently opened Corals account without issue.

I left a fiver in my pocket, too late I'd started the wash cycle :(
Now I'm gonna be accused of money laundering aren't I?

I hope it comes out the other end OK, I shan't be able to take it to bank for a new one, if it comes out in pieces
for that very reason :(

It only comes out the other end when you've swallowed it!

LOL very good
But I don't often eat money, neither a "Pony" or a "Monkey" :D

If it's a pony, you'll have to go through your pony to find at least 2 notes...

They actually wash well being about 50% cotton composition. (y)

But I don't often eat money,

Ha, A mate of mine quite a few years ago, when out in the pubs & he'd had a few  used to ask folk if they had a pound coin & when they got one out, he bet them he'd swallow it.
Most folk (who'd also had a few ) went along with it & just thought it highly amusing. My mate reckoned it paid for half his beer money on a Fri & Sat night. :mooning:

I would have surmised that if you open a transaction account you need to have proved your identity at the beginning of the relationship. So in regard to the OP's various accounts where he has made a withdrawal what proof of ID did he have to provide to open the account and how does it vary compared to the others.

If none of the betting companies require proof of ID then the cynic in me says they do not expect you to win and have any money to withdraw.

Not as daft as he he first appeared eh? :D

All it needs now is a low temperature iron, and it'll be as good if not better than new

An old print glazer is perfect for the job!
