Two years ago my phone was with BT and on average it cost just over £140 every 3 month but more most times due to internationall calls.
My Sky TV was nearly £60 a month on the full package
And my Broadband was £20 a month for a measly 1mb but if I went over 1 gb download in the month it doubled
My Mobile bills were Vodafone contract ...about £50 a month with 2 PAYG at about £25 each so in total about £250 a month.

I then switched to Virgin media for everything 20mb unlimited broadband, all TV channels inc the sky package home phone with international calls and 3 mobiles I have had this package for 2 years and the bill has never topped £148 a month for all the services.

Just worked it out and decided to share lol
 
Blimey! And I bet that didn't take that much shopping around either. It's usually just a case of being bothered to look. We humans are creatures of habit, and why bother changing something that works?

Actually, it was - that's quite a difference on your outgoings.

So the difference you are going to save up and buy a nice new toy for your camera then? Just don't tell Mrs DM!
 
A nice new toy with 4 wheels more like lol we do need one ours is on its last breath after 10 years of trouble free motoring
 
i think the problem for alot of people in the uk, yes virgin media is dirt cheap for these packages but despite digging bloody big holes in our pavements and roads to install fibreoptics about 15 years ago, its not available to alot of people

Yes you have hit the mark there my mum would love the services but its not available where she lives and other parts of the country otherwise R Branson would be even richer than he already is as the services are brilliant and at the right prices

Not just fibre optics, my gas arrives via a tanker:(and sewage leaves via a tanker:lol:
 
I am so far behind, I have only just got a freeview box, :bonk:

Mobile with orange, £30 pm, 600 mins, unlimited texts, and includes free broadband (which is actually quite good!)

BT line and bill £17 pm (I let international call me! :D)

Total £47 per month and I'm still skint :(

For Eileens family to call us from Florida its free for them but a 1 hr call from us is about 14p yet a 1 min call to any 0845 number is 12p just to connect:shrug:
 
Sorry got that a bit wrong for her family to call us is very expensive about $2 a min so we call them (they think we are rich):lol::lol::lol: not:'(

Well it has started me off:bat:
I don't mind 08 if it is followed by two noughts, but I simply refuse to dial any other chargeable numbers, my council has just replaced their raft of department numbers with an 0845 number!!!, before very long all business numbers will be premium numbers, your right it is a bloody rip off!!

Rant over, off to make a coffee.

Edit, I know about the "say no to 0870" site:)

0845 is local rate not premium rate.

It means if its not a local call you are charged at the local call rate. for example NHSD is 08454647 and you can phone from anywhere and get charged local rate.

It's supposed to be Toothie but I can tell you now that Asda mobile (Mal's fav elcheapo mobile operator) charge all 08xx at 35p/min, even 0800. If you have a contract with x number of free minutes you'll find any calls to to an 08xx number is charged rather than taken from your free minutes, and worse of all, Gordon Brown publicly stated he would ensure all GP's 08xx were removed from the NHS a couple of years ago but we're still waiting. My ex's GP still operates an 0845 number just to book appointments. why? They should only have local patients anyway surely? So why the need for a non geographic local rate number? :shrug:

I understand 0845 is advertised at being local rate, however most folk are on calling plans and not all plans allow these numbers in their inclusive minutes which can add up when you are connected to an automatic switchboard, navigate through the many options, then finally be put on hold:bat:

I was always under the impression that they still generated a small income for the holder, however I am wrong about that and surprised to discover the holder is actually charged per minute for receiving those calls which begs the question why our local council and hospitals have adopted those numbers when the vast majority of calls must surely be local!.
 
Have you tried Skype for your calls? My family in America and friends in Europe all use it, plug phone into PC and skype to skype calls are free!
