This isn't a review, because I'm almost sure that one will have been done.

I received a new Billingham 550 this morning, and I was completely amazed!!

Billingham have always made bags of the highest quality, but I've always been put off by the weight.

They are now using a new fabric, and have changed the entire specification for the better. The brass is better, the leather is better, the inner dividers are much better, and lighter, but the biggest improvement is in the waterproof canvas.

The new canvas has a much finer weave, is much smoother, but more importantly, it's much lighter. I'm pretty certain, that this new 550, Billinghams biggest, weighs substantially less than my old 445.

He he he - I've just remembered - the base on my first Billingham bag, (police issue), an old Nytex 445, was a lump of 4 ply covered in canvas, god, that bag weighed a ton!!

Highly recommended.

Well show us the bloody thing then!!! :D

I've put up a pic for you Janice - least you could do was take a look:bang:

I know you said it is the biggest they do but without a camera or lens in shot it is hard to judge the size. Does look very smart though.

Can't help thinking bags that look too good say 'steal me'. My crumpler looks like a lunch bag!

OOh very nice.

Id keep that clean for.............about...........ooh, 43 seconds!! :D

My son is a landscape designer and gardener. I went out today to take some photos for his portfolio. It already has the patina of a working bag:bang:

I did think I could keep it looking respectable for a while.

Just to give you an idea Robert, one of the padded side pockets will easily take a 1D body

I have tested it with:

1D MkIIN with 28-70L (fitted to body)

20D with 80-200L (fitted to body)

10D body

20-35mmL

400L

580EX

All in the main compartment. As stated, would also take another 2 pro bodies in the end pockets, leaving enough room for all the rest of tour gear in another two large pockets, two zipped pockets, and a laptop in the zipped rear compartment. Its BIG!!

It looks a beautiful bag Doug but I can't help thinking those side pockets look like they could drop off at any time..:(

How are they attached to the bag..

Hi,

They are actually buckled to the bag, and very, very secure. It actually took me about ten minutes to secure them, and my finsgers are STILL sore!.. the buckles are concealed behind the pockets, making it next to impossible for anybody to remove them without you knowing.
