Yes
of all charges.

No surprise there then.

The judge pretty much laid out the verdict...if there is no doubt then the charge is guilty if there are any doubts then not guilty...can anyone be 100% sure of guilt on something that occurred a long time ago with no hard evidence....only the accused and accusers know the real answer

What a waste of time and money, the evidence seemed very flimsy at best - probably the decision to charge was just an OTT reaction to Saville.

To be honest I'm not surprised, and I think the whole system of investigating these accusations is starting to become a complete farce: theres usually no forensic evidence, witnesses (except those accusing) etc, and most of these cases against well known actors, entertainers etc are examining things which happened over 25 to 40 years ago so its essentially the 'victims' word/memory against the defendants. Whilst a proportion of these accusations are probably true, its essentially becoming a witch hunt, a gross overreaction to Saville, and nearly every week someone involved in TV, radio etc during the 60's to 80's seems to be accused of doing something. I just wonder how many more of these cases are going to happen, and how much more time/money is going to be wasted on cases where the evidence is so weak.

she said, he said ... I am also amazed it got as far as it did.. Yes the police absoloutly should look into every accusation... but realisticly I dont see how it went as far as it did based on... she said, he said

Thankfully justice has finally been done and Bill can get his life back on track. He needs to be back on 'The Street' ASAP for the country to see he's been accepted back. Similar allegations have ruined the careers of some people, think Matthew Kelly who was a screen regular and wasn't given a job for around 5 years after he was declared innocent of all charges, unfortunately mud sticks at times. Maybe the 'unidentified accusers' should now be named (and maybe investigated over wasting police time) so people can avoid any problems with them in the future.

When you have a girl supposedly raped and can't remember how old she was at the time and then went back a second time for it to happen again the accusations seem flimsy at best. Total knee jerk reaction to the Saville case and I'm sure there'll be a few more cleared. We who are old enough know that it was a different world back then. I've had my backside patted by a girl I used to work with and I've done the same back but I really don't think that makes me a sexual pervert or criminal, it was just a friendly gesture that in my case was taken how it was meant. I think most of the accusations of sexual assault are no worse than that and if so then it's a waste of time and money to bring a case. The country has gone PC mad in the last few years, we even have Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep now which shows just how pathetic the country has become.

I believe Deirdrie was innocent too.

it all started with the jam jars ......

Where there's a Will there's a Bill.

What interests me is that when a prosecution is successful the CPS/police are interviewed, usually outside the court asserting how pleased they are that justice has been done. Where are they after a high profile celebrity prosecution fails??

It used to happen all the time (both ways) as those of us of a certain age will remember.

I didn't know they existed but its seems that they do

When I was 14 I had a Saturday job in a large grocery shop. All the staff were female except me. I got touched up regularly. I thought it was great :)

Similar sort of thing here too, I didn't complain either :D

Lucky you. I always had to pay to get women to touch me. ;-)

When I read the judge ordered the jury to find him not guilty on the first charge about a week ago because the witness said she thought the sex act had happened but couldn't be sure I thought it'd end up like this

How on earth the CPS took it to trial with a maybe I have no idea

And he's missed Hayley's funeral

I'm glad he has been cleared, having watched the interview with Piers Morgan, and thought that Mr Roache may be more than a little unusual in his beliefs, but that doesn't make him guilty.

Nearly all of these "celebrity trials" seem to end with aquittals, the only exception so far being Stuart Hall. I think we need to ask ourselves whether these cases should have been brought at all, and why they were brought - did the police/CPS really feel that there was a realistic prospect of convictions, or have they just gone slightly mad and tried to make up for their years of conniving at abuse by failing to take complaints seriously?

It's not the Police/CPS, it's the CPS. Police no longer have a role in the decision, they just collect evidence.

However, I agree, the CPS shouldn't have taken it to trial, the rape allegation was a weak as they come. However the CPS statement made it clear they believed that there was a realistic chance of a conviction. Methinks there's some pressure being put to charge for reasons other than evidence, happens a lot for people in public life.

Obviously no one really knows what went on other than those involved. But something that has puzzled me is what would people have to gain by making up lies like this? An innocent man would go to prison for what? This may sound like I think he is guilty, however that's not what I'm going for, it's just something that doesn't make sense to me. I am glad he has been acquitted and can't wait to see him back in Corrie soon!

Unless they were going for a Michael Jackson out of court settlement?

For some people the kick of 'being involved' is enough - involved with a 'big name' ... feeling of being important/people paying attention to what they are saying ... 'nowt as queer as folk' isn't as unlikely as it sounds.

It seems its never ending. I do feel rather sorry for him...

Lancashire Police say a "number of people" came forward with information during the Corrie actor's trial which ended last week.

For goodness sake!

Why leak this to the media?

Either draw up new charges based on this information or don't, but treat him the same as everyone else who is not well known.

Just my opinion......

Not just yours. Yes, if anyone's found guilty, release their name but until the verdict's handed down, keep it under wraps.

I'm not convinced about anonymity after charges have been brought, irrespective of who it is, but I'm certainly against leaks like this.
It's starting to look like a witch hunt

The CPS are at the root of this. Reputations to made, I guess. Seems like a gross waste of public (taxpayers) money to prosecute in a case like this.
