As I am now a "Biker Chick"...strictly pillion only, I hasten to add.....I am wondering if I should upgrade my Lowepro AW Trekker to something more robust. Obviously nothing except a Peli will withstand an accident, but are there any backpacks out there that might be a bit more substantial than mine?

Thanks.

Is it not possible to store the equipment in saddle bags.

In a worst case scenario I wouldn't want hard lumpy objects on my back if I came off or the bike had to be laid down.

Much increased risk of spinal injury

i want to do my Bike test and get a gsx-r 600..i thought about the same thing..a sturdy back pack..

then i thought, if you come off a bike you should not really be worrying about your equipment and more if your in BUPA or not ;-)

Being a fairly avid biker, my comments would be:

1) Hard luggage (top box or panniers) with inner bags that you can pad with foam.

2) A large tankbag - less likely that will take impact during a collision or lowside.

3) Tail Pack (as 1 above) but with you as a pillion, he'll need a rack.

I'm stuffed at the moment, as there's no way I'll put hard luggage on my FireBlade (although I have seen it before) and I have no intention of putting my camera gear into a tail pack.

Rucksak + Off = major back injury. I'm happy with my laptop on my back when I have my back protector on.

Good advice Steve!

Take minimum kit in a tank bag and make sure it's one that is attached by straps rather than magnets!

Anything you have on you has the potential to harm you if you come off, even at fairly low speeds.

Never liked the idea of having my gear on my back so I came up with this :-

Works very nicely, I can stop & take the shot without getting of the Bike :)

i used to lug all my kit around on my bike (fazer 1000) and in the end i got sick of the weight on my back and general bulk and bought a top box and rack for about 100 quid and id say thats the way to go

its safe lockable and when ** wandering round with the camera gives u somewhere to store your lid and gloves
