I have a 2006 Fiesta with a high level boot spoiler - so am guessing that the traditional type of bike rack that sits on the boot lid/bumper and straps to the top of the boot lid will be no good because of the spoiler?

What other options for 2 adult mountain bikes do I have (inside is not an option)? Thanks

Roof rack and bike clamps.

Towbar mounted rack.

Ditch the car, keep the bikes (and buy a train network card), I did this a couple of years ago as well as moving to a small town on a good rail link.
You will save money, get fitter, meet new people and arguably save the planet.
For the odd occasion like the Christmas trip to the in laws you can always hire a car.

:nono:

I have tried different set ups but the best one I have found is a rack that fits on the tow bar, takes 2 mountain bikes easy (can get one for 3) and its good not having to lift bikes up high after a long ride. The bike rack also pulls back with bikes on so you can get to the boot.

I have driven to France a couple of times and no problem with it, they were as sturdy on it as when I arrived 400 miles later. I got a Strada but ther is also a Thule one.

i have dragged 5 bikes over to france before and used a combination of roof mounted carriers on roof bars and also a witter tow bar mounted carrier
both were very good and sturdy but obviously one means fitting a tow bar as well

roof rack, the cheapest thule rack is pretty good, ive got one and i feel more confident having it on there than hanging on the boot.
