bigsteve's 52 for 2010 Week 8 "Mechanical"

Great bit of PP Steve, I did wonder who would be brave enough - congrats.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging comments everyone! :-)

speed theme nicely done
the grain really works here

but I have a dilemma
knowing the theme the picture fits very nicely
but without the theme does it say "speed" or "generig drug deal"
tough one

Good question Mike!
Don't worry about it too much, I've tried to make the image contextual wherever it appears.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. :-)

'Speed' nice one Steve. Something a little *cough* management speak *cough* 'out of the box'. Without knowing the theme it doesn't scream 'Speed' but knowing the theme I think it fits quite well. Think the noise adds to it too.

Here's my entry for week 6, Present.

Once we were buds on a strengthening bough before we burst forth in green splendour.
Tomorrow we will fade and decay to nothingness.
Today we just wait, here in the present.

:) Steve

Very clever and a nice poem/saying aswell Steve.
Out of curiosity, was this shot from above? and I would have liked a bit more space at the top, (nit-picking,) other than that, I really like this Steve.

Bit late with my comments for your speed, like it very much. The processing adds to the darkness of the scene.

Your present pic is a nice idea, just think it could have been cropped less tight as graham mentioned, nice and sharp

Looks great against the dark backgroud, just the right lighting.

Wasn't poetry week 2 ? ;)

Very nice shot Steve and good detail in the leaves. Personally, I like the way that the leaves fill the frame.

I'm finding the stalk and bottom part of the upper leaf being oof a bit confusing, so maybe a bot more DoF would have helped. A very minor niggle though in what's a lovely simple image.
The words go beautifully with it too (even if it's not poetry week )

Steve, love the textures in the leaves... and my first thought echoes Sarah... poetry was week 2 ...

lovely tones and texture, agree a bit more space at the top would have been nice ;)

Very nice image Steve, great colour and detail. Took me a few readings of the poem to get it though (yeah I'm a bit slow).

Once more out onto the street to fill the brief for this week!

Here's "People", an older couple shopping with a bag full of feel good.
The half-hidden lady is looking at the face on the t-shirt watching the couple go by...

I like this but prefer the rhs cropped tight to the gentleman & I think it would have been better without the land in the background - not that you could do a great deal about that!

Very nice B&W tones,

Phil

hmm.. i'll have to get myself a bag of 'feel good' :)

nice candid, great in B+W agree with crop suggestion but it doesn't bother me too much :)

Loved it on Flick and love it on here. :D

Thanks guys, I'll try to catch up with my commenting tomorrow.

Very good... it works very well Rob. I could do with a bag of 'feel good' too ;)

Sorry for the tardiness of this week's entry, got a lot on my mind.

Anyhow, here's my mate the spannermeister Scuzz sorting out a mechanical problem with young Dean's bike...

(Poor image removed, will replace soon)

Sorry, Steve, this isn't working at all for me this week, mate. I can't be sure what the real focal point is and the light doesn't do it any favours.

Scuzz certainly looks and sounds the part, but the lighting and heavy shadows are spoiling it I'm afraid. I am a little worried that there's a big knife stuck to the wall in the background though

Mmmmm, true dat.
Not my best work and certainly not the shot I head in my head before going up there.

I'll have a go with the original idea tomorrow.

Thankings! :-)

Right, well. Speed, excellent - no other word for it. Processing is just right though maybe try an uneven grain next time?

Present, a "past" leaf for the present them eh? Works for me but it doesn't look exactly right where it sits in the frame?

People I like too, good to see a giggle these days... not sure about feeling good coming out of Boots though :D

Arthur

Yeah, Big Steve, you're still here... love the old dear. Did she forget to put her teeth in?

Okay, this is more like the image I had in mind and it'll have to do 'cos I'm going to fall behind otherwise! :shake:

For week 8's 'Mechanical', I present 'Jaws'.

Hope you're all doing okay, and I'll try to catch up with commenting! :D

Brilliant stuff there Steve, tack sharp, so loads of detail to explore. Lit perfectly, composed well and bang on theme. I just love the texture of those grips, I can almost smell the oil ;)

That's a better offering from you Steve. Sharp and detailed and I love the background. Good way to bounce back

Much better than the last one, fella. Good job. Really like the symmetry to the shot and the background compliments it well.
