I am off down to see the tide and hopefully capture the Tidal Boar :) its a big spring tide today, rivers are fairly full and the tide will have the wind behind it, what a combination for a photograph or two !

Take care out there and don't risk your life for a capture !

Good luck with that, its not supposed to hit here until later this evening and tomorrow, so the light will be too bad for tonight but I may see if there is anything I can practice on tomorrow.

Just been studying this for a while as I'm flying later & poss tomorrow. Forecasts have the main wind & rain arriving in the early hours of the morning, at least after midnight, probably wild thru the night, easing a little by morning, winds in the north west around 70 mph. oh no !!!!! :(

Just hearing on the news about the very high tides tonight, along with huge winds and low pressure. Definitely got me thinking about getting in the car and heading west to do something stupid.

It's either that or the stable girls do I've been invited to. Hmmm, boots and whips or wet, cold, dark and windswept....

Well Dazzajl seems no contest ! But with no such invite I shall gingerly attempt some photography down at our local beach some 3 mile away on the Cardigan Bay coast. The waves bombard the quayside in the average storm conditions so tomorrows should be errrrrrrrrr...............interesting

I'm probably going out to the pier in Sunderland to see if I can get some shots, fingers crossed for some good shots.

Oh b****r! Ive got to drive from Essex and cross the Severn Bridge at 6am!

Go with the "wet, cold, dark and windswept" Daz ;) The other option is bound to land you in trouble

I think you might be diverted around Gloucester Jan t ,if it`s above force 6 ,as the Bridges tend to sway a lot !!!!! But you will have the pleasure of entering our wonderful country of WALES.:thumbs::thumbs:

capture the Tidal Boar

Have images in my head of a massive pig, made of water, charging up a river

Looking forward to seeing the photos anyway :)

Typical, drove past where I was going to stop and went into Arnside which is further up the Estuary, I thought I would catch it there, dammit, boar had been through so hightailed it back to Sandside - Tidal Boars must move at a fair old lick as it beat me there, so no pics were taken.

I did however nip across to the RSPB reserve and the Little Egret was being a good bird again, I was shooting in Manual mode though so that got the brain working !

Going to DL them now, so if any good will be over in the Animals and Nature section.

You are probably right and the idea of heading to the west and watching the Atlantic try and launch itself at Norwich in the wee small hours is strangley tempting.

But it's been almost days since I've had a night out with trouble........ busy? :D

LOL ... this is such an eggcorn.

It's actually called a Tidal Bore, but ... and this is staggeringly impressive ... if you do a search for "tidal boar" in Google, this thread is actually the second result, or third without the quote marks!!

Shame you missed it though, dseered. I've seen some fairly impressive photos of the Severn one in the past :)

very stoermy here in Devon.

got to walk to work at 12.30 hope it calms down

Watched the news earlier on with the sea breaking over a train down in Teignmouth, Devon! I think this is the lull before part 2!

Its Wales I go to once a week, Frazel!

Crossed the Severn Bridge at 5:45am and no problems... although the M4 had been horrendous trying to overtake lorries. SO much spray that you couldnt see the lines in the road.

Im now back in Essex and it seems to have followed me home as it is p*****g down here!

Well done for getting home safely Janice :)

Just seen the pics on the beeb website of Lulworth Cove and how far the waves have come in. I was there only a few weeks ago and was tempted to drive down last night and take a few pics from high up on the cliffs first thing at sunrise. I promised myself on the last visit to get pics of Durdle Door with crashing waves rather than all of the others serene shots normally seen of it.

No good reason not to have gone (other than turning up to work), so instead, hopefully we'll see some interesting pics where people haven't risked life and limb.

Hate to put a "dampener" on the whole thing (excuse the pun) but the met office gave out warnings not to make any unnecessary journeys, which is just what you guys intend on doing just to get a few shots! Am I the only one thinking that this is a bit of a daft thing to do?

Perhaps read the last line on the first post ?

If every photographer stayed at home just because of the weather / climate / ecomonic / political situation, our world would be an artistically poorer place as there is a huge element of reportage that is also very important to all of the things that happen around us.

Of course, do it sensibly and safely as possible.

I don't think the storms are coming anymore

Tony

"Goes and get deckchair out.....YEAH sure" :P

Just driven from Neath to Merthyr in South Wales, along the edge of the Brecon Beacons on my way to work. Camera in the house, :bonk: anyway I had no time to stop. Never seen such great light, hundreds of photo opportunites and not a tog in sight. :shake:

Hopefully, I'm off on Thursday, and some bad weather due in tomorrow but clearing on Thursday, so hopefully I'll catch some decent light then

Anybody get some great photos from the storms? If so post them asap so we can all see. And in my case look on with envy
