Big Nikon glass and drop in filters

Anyone got any experience of the drop in filters?

Apparently this is the 52mm drop in, which seems to screw into the filter holder.

I know the CPL is a Nikon specific job (which a little screw wheel to adjust it in situ) but what about stuff like ND's?

Can I use just any 52mm ND in the holder?

yes just a standard 52mm filter will screw in i use some hoya nd filters in mine

The 52mm NC in my 300mm f/2.8 AF-S is identical to one you'd buy from Nikon to put on a lens.
