Big Game Hunting

Steve, you must be really thick and the only one (apart from me evidently) who understands your own posts. All the kind people trying to help you out, educate you by explaining things in basic terms to you. I bet you don't feel partonised or trolled in any way at all or are yo too dumb for that as well.

The trolls seem to flock to me like moths to a flame. I'm just a charismatic guy who talks sense and others try and shout me down by trolling rubbish and sanctimony. It just doesn't work or put me down. The trolls will keep on coming.

Yeh, they can't help themselves. It's back to that old thing of who shouts longest and loudest blah blah blah.

I'm not posting to get a reaction. I'm posting my genuine thoughts. As you were.

Ok Steve thought you was on a windup assuming that you are serious and I don't want to get personal but don't you think that the world is a better place with all the wildlife in it ?
I know you are into landscapes so you must appreciate nature, animals are part of that in fact animals shape the landscape make it what it is
Yes I know we can kill anything and everything that we want doesn't mean that we have to

I am not sure to be honest. Other species have come and gone, and the worlds been just been just fine. The odd animal being bread for hunting and killed, sorry, it doesn't change much. Its not my idea of fun, but its other peoples. I see it as banal and harmless. Natures cruel, other animals kill other animals, so what if a person kills a couple off.

I'd be more worried about the amazon deforestation, that will effect the air we breathe.

Are you concerned about Grouse shooting, pheasant shooting and fishing, or just big exotic animal hunting?

We'll be getting told global warming is real next. After this summer????

to our knowledge possibly. however a species disapearing could have knock ons to the eco system surrounding them.

and why should humans feel it acceptable to wipe out entire species just for pleasure? surely our superior evolution and amazing brains should realise that is just plain selfish and wrong.

No-one is wiping out any species, merely killing a couple of animals. I really doubt in a closed ecosystem how wiping out lions will effect our food and life?

african lions have decreased in numbers significantly.

"Over the past 50 years Africa’s lion populations have plummeted from over 200,000 individuals back in the 1960’s to fewer than 25,000 today. A shocking number if you consider the size of that continent, and by far the greatest number of remaining lion populations are small, scattered, and highly vulnerable."

and suddenly africa is overrun with wilder-beast and zebra.. stripping the county of grazing ability and ruining the land for crops.

they said that about the dodo and the passenger pigeon, and the north american buffalo ... oh there's loads killing a few won't hurt ... the first two are extinct, the latter only survives in reserves

I get that your not that fussed about nature but a lot of people are and have strong feelings on it that's why you get a reaction when you post stuff
Youre right about the amazon and other forests we are buggered if they disappear i'm not an expert in conservation but the trees don't just exist on their own the insects animals and birds all keep the forest alive
As for hunting yes I don't want to go and kill animals myself but I'm beginning to think that maybe properly organised hunting can be used to fund conservation that's what happens in Namibia
As for pheasant shooting I don't really have an opinion on it to be honest as long as the gamekeepers don't kill all of the birds prey though
And I like fishing just don't have the time to go much anymore with doing photography

it could in theory - what tends to happen in practice with 'sustainable use' is that it's used to mask abuse and poaching , as its cheaper to lure lions or other game out of the game reserves to shoot than it is to breed them ... this is rife in south africa with lions typically being lured out of the botswanan reserves and over the border to be shot.

also canned hunting businesses are typically less than fussy about where they get their breeding stock from , which also leads to illegal poaching and wild trapping.

also for every moron who wants to pay to shoot a lion there are other more intelligent people who will pay to see or photograph them alive.. so the game in the reserves is worth significantly more to the economy alive than dead .

I'm sure he's on a wind up. No-one can be that thick. Well done @ST4. Played us all

actually absent the game reserves, its more likely to be over run with scraggy cattle and goats taking all the forage so that the wild species like zebras etc die off , and then the soil blows away and the land becomes a desert leading eventually to famine.

How much of the worlds food is grown there? Does it even matter?
