Kicked off my project/challenge with captive, been a bit laggy due to workload at the moment, I have my idea for metal and miniature but its just waiting for the weather to clear up a bit.

Anyway, first post as captive, couldn't think of much so decided to head down the Deep Sea World in North Queens ferry to watch the seals get fed.

.... and an excellent start it is too. Obviously fits the theme without question. Very interesting image with lots of points of interest to captivate the viewer. Love that glassy sheen on the seal.

Thanks Carl, the image really became its own once changed from RAW colour to B&W I purposely overdid the microcontrast to bring out the seals coat & net in the background. Thanks for the compliment.

Nice one .. lots of detail, lots going on, and the heavy processing really works. (y)

A nice sharp photo that Ryan, fits the theme nicely, liking your choice of going B&W with this, really suits the seals shiny coat

Good luck with your challenge, look forward to your interpretations you have come up with for miniature and metal !!

Nice start ::)
I'm not really a fan of B&W animal images, but this works well, the processing makes it look age'd rather than just converted

Very nice B/W nice sharp detail great shot.(y)

To reiterate what everyone else said, interesting shot with a variety of textures set off very nicely by the high contrast B&W.

Ok, so I have finally had some time off from work, been away for a couple of weeks but got the next 5 days to catch up on this.

Really glad I signed up to this, I almost finding it annoying having to choose a single image, so many different ideas come to mind. Anyway, few more images.

Week 3 - Miniature - "Lonely Lunch"

Week 5 - Abandoned "Trolley Dash"

Which is actually a very tight crop of another picture, but due to the imposing branch, and the lack of focus on the trolley I decided to crop in.

Cheers again,

I almost finding it annoying having to choose a single image,
Its your thread, post however many you like, but preferably just stick to one per theme, on the home page and of course link back ( as you have done)

but due to the imposing branch, and the lack of focus on the trolley I decided to crop in.
TBH I prefer that one, you can see what it is, and the fact that it is "almost" lost among everything else. :)

Miniature - certainly a highlights the scale of things, nice idea.

Abandoned - really like that, loads going on.

Camouflage - well seen and a really good idea for the theme.

Just realised I have spelt miniature wrong everywhere.... How annoying!

Cobra - me too, I was really happy with it, but so gutted when I got back and saw the branch in the frame. I was paying more attention on the stream not sweeping my kit away at the time haha. That was the first image I dabbled in cross processing and really liked the result, only a hint however as although it definitely has its artistic uses, like micro-contrast (or thinking about it any post process adjustment), it can be too easy to look generic and over edited.

Miniature - certainly a highlights the scale of things, nice idea.
love your miniature!!! Simple but effective :)
I really liked the contrast between the huge overly engineered bridge, and the tiny person, had this idea for a while and was just waiting for a good day. finally the wind came down, and I decided to use the bad weather for a more lonely scene - kept it simple, made the colours a touch de(un?)saturated and 'bland' and just kept the lens open enough to isolate the poor little feller.

Anyway thanks, for the comments. I am going to join in the discussion on other peoples threads, so far I have just enjoyed the big picture thread, but have only really scrolled through it. Some talented people out there eh!?

Cheers
Earl

Miniature - little dude is good but the bridge in the background brings it to a whole new level. Excellent work

Abandoned - I prefer the first shot. The dilapidated walkway and the old trolley are more prominent so. I like the long exposure trails in the water too. Another great shot

Camouflage - A great take on the theme, nice one

Don't feel bad I spelt "abandonded" everywhere and I'm supposed to running the show :D

Quite a catch up there...
Metal - I prefer the composition of #2 but the dramatic lighting in #1 wins it for me.
Miniature - Great idea having the miniature fishing. What's the tie wraps all about? they are kind of distracting.
Abandoned - Good job with the long exposure, interesting trails left in the water... Nice crisply sharp shot (y)
Camouflage - Interesting take on the theme. Isn't it odd the way that the bricked up window doesn't seem to have the same perspective as the rest of the wall.

Metal - Good idea for the theme, personally I prefer the second image, its the angle that makes it for me. Nice lighting too.

Captive - Right on the money, that seals coat looks like glass, like the B&W adds to the image.

Miniature - Liking the idea, the feeling is helped by the bridge in the background.

Abandoned - I prefer the first image the best, this is because I like the tighter crop making it a better balanced image.

Camouflage - really like this, something I would take a pic of. Bet this would look good in B&W.

Well done on the catch-up .

Metal - #1 definitely with all that nicely lit bg.
Miniature - great composition and the excellent DoF sets off the scene nicely
Abandoned - I actually prefer the uncropped version as it has a greater environmental impact. Lovely smooth water.
Camouflaged - Definitely spot on theme

Week 6A - Camouflage - Black & white take on my submission
As the colour before helped ironically distinguish the attempted camouflage, I decided instead to burn the outer brick work to get a similar emphasis on the 'new' brick work. Anyway, personally I prefer the colour one but I always like to explore a different 'perspective' especially after someone mentioning.

Thoughts anyone?

Hi Earl

Metal - I like this, the floodlights provide a great contrast against the night sky, which itself is fascinating.

Miniature - the Forth Bridge is a fantastic backdrop and the little figurine has quite a lot of character sitting there on the railing. However the cable tie's very distracting.

Abandoned - viewing on my phone I can't figure out which crop I like best, but I like the fact that it's an interesting scene anyway, which just happens to have an abandoned trolley in it. The fact that the trolley isn't even the focus of the shot adds to the sense of abandonment.

Camouflage - interesting take on the theme. I prefer the colour version.

Abandoned - prefer the closer crop but both are great shots :)

Camouflage - nice shot, definitely fits the theme :)

Just in after another productive day out in Elie!

I thought there would be mixed opinions about the cable ties :) I took a few shots of the figure sat there with them out the shot, and in some other places, I also experimented with different apertures. I used the ties to emphasize how small the guy was. I'll have to post up a couple of the others just to see what you guys think but that one was definitely my favourite :)

Cheers again!
Earl
