Any recommendations?
We have a Samsung 40incher in the large, it is our only TV as we mainly only do downloaded and offline content nowadays.
I am thinking of replacing it with a 50inch+ on a budget but don't want no name brands.

Very recently got an ex-display Panasonic Viera 49" from Sainsbury's at a very good price.

Had a similar problem with the 49"er in the s***box Clio! Personally, I'd rather buy from anywhere other than JL if it can be done for the same price - their "Never Knowingly Undersold" line is bull-doody!

Wait til after christmas, generally a good time for price drops on big TVs.

EDIT: Having said that, £599 is pretty darn good.

humm, lots of very nice features on that set, very tempted.

Slight hi-jack, Anyone got any thoughts on a 49" or 55" for around £1000? Although must admit Im tempted to wait for OLED to drop a bit in price.

Get local Man-With-A-Van to pick it up for you ?

i would but nearest place for Richer is Leeds so looking at an hour each way plus waiting time, £40 for an extra years wannty just isn't worth it.
Free delivery from JL for 5 years warranty.

Really? I have found their customer services to be one of the best on the high street. They price matched my BBQ for me no hassles.

That's the point though, even when I told them that a local competitor was cheaper than them, they kept their higher price on the shelf rather than dropping it to the lower price.

I was in the same boat three or so weeks ago. Ended up with a 50" Hisense set from Richer Sounds. Slightly cheap on the design / materials but it looks decent wall mounted and gives 4k / HDR for under £550 with a 6 year warranty.

Nearly caved for a £1k samsung though [emoji87] [emoji85]

one of the main reason i fancy the samsung is its really good native DNLA support for my media server which runs twonky.
currently i use an old WD Live TV and I think the samsung will take ofer that role.

Perhaps not this year though. With the recent fall in the value of sterling, there have been reports in the media that retailers will need to put prices up after Christmas.

If I were the OP, I might want to try to dig into this issue to see how real it is.

This popped up last year. Best no thrills screens are the Samsung 5000 series. They only ever use their own panels. You have to be careful with some of the cheap models from some of the other brands they are often made with cheap Chinese panels the same you find in cheapo supermarket own brands.

Think I'll be plumping for a nice, neat sound bar. I used to have the whole amp, sub and four satellite speaker setup but the wires drove me nuts. My son would destroy them in no time now.

I am quite lucky on that front me and mrs bump live in a massive old victorian end terrace which has full cellers underneath every downstairs room, so wires simply pop down and up where they need to.
here is a quick snap of the rear lounge in our house (3 have 2 lounges) with the 40 inch and two front huge TDL RTL3 floorstanders.

Jealous. I was severely drawn to some nice floor standing speakers again in Richer Sounds but realise the wife would kill me if I came back with anything like them as they're just totally impractical for us (for now).

Have been impressed with recent sound bars and they seem far better than when they first came out plus still offer BT capability for streaming music from my phone etc.

Ps your TV looks miniscule in comparison to the clock [emoji102] [emoji1]

haha yeah its an old victorian station clock.
I do like that clock a lot.

Don't forget - if you buy from JL and they reduce the price within a month of your purchase, you contact them and they'll refund you the difference from what you've paid to the lower price.

You just need your receipt / order number and it's a quick visit to shop or phone call to customer service.

So really, it's small budget TV. :-)

When I first saw the thread title.............then actually read the initial post, I tittered to myself. ;) (but I have better manners than to mention the missing `but` in the title :D )
