Yes
Now this is REALLY scary!

Quite a lot of people I have talked to think I'm a bit paranoid about security on my PC.

For instance did you know that Win7 has a backdoor in it so government agencies can check you out?

Or that Zone Alarm is partly owned by the NSA (National Security Agency) in America.

Which is why I use a drastically cut down version of XP PRO and usually surf hidden behind layers of proxies.

Paranoid?

Really?

I came across this website when surfing security on the 'net:

http://www.youhavedownloaded.com

And this is just a TINY bit of the info already out there on YOU!

Just put in your IP address and it tells you what you and any one else on on your IP address has downloaded!

On MY IP address it shows a load of downloads many of which are probably illegal!

The problem is that NONE of them are mine!

Since I use a broadband dongle this address is often re-assigned to others as well.

But what will I - and possibly YOU say if, or WHEN, we are charged with theft?

And ask yourself this - if it's so easy for anyone to get this information about you what else have they already got?

Remember that Mel Gibson film "Conspiracy Theory" where he thought they were out to get him - well they were!

And just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me!

And now a vast amount of information on each and every one of us is being collated by Facebook, Google, Twitter et al.

Welcome to 1984!

If you don't do anything illegal then this shouldnt worry you. If you do illegal things then you deserve to be caught.

Nothing! Absolutely Nothing.

So that site is totally pointless when it comes to dynamic addresses?

I think this thread is a waste of electrons. :)

Thought from the title "Big Brother is" the correct answer would be "a load of old *******s"

Just noticed. The site is a joke.

So I was right, this thread is a waste of electrons.

The doctor will be along soon

And server space :)

Quite correct, but as I found out, my IP address shows loads of potentially illegal downloads which are nothing to do with me.

And do YOU trust this government and others?

In the past thousands of people have been wrongly classified as criminals by the government databases thanks to errors.

And don't forget THAT site was put together by people with no connection to any agencies using freely available data.

Just think of all the data already out there on all of us and the potential for harm WHEN, not IF, errors are made.

.

That group of ambulance chasing lawyers that were targeting people incorrectly have been stomped on very thoroughly in recent times. An ip address isn't proof of anything.

I'd just assume that site was a fake and that you'll be getting emails/pop ups about some sort of scare ware solution to fix the 'problem'.

If you're that paranoid, then you should read up on what the CIA are trying to do with regards to FB and Twitter

My ex-boss asked me once if he was paranoid, I said No, everyone really does hate you Dave :D

Big brother is watching,

only recently someone on a social networking site made a comment to his friends and was turned around at the border.

Just a heads up. Every single thing you do on the Internet can be tracked, traced or made public by almost anyone. Just by browsing you are submitting data to your ISP, companies, advertisers and anyone else with the know how and motivation to find out. You don't need to give your consent and you don't even know they are doing it.

Seriously the government is nothing to worry about. Apple, google and Facebook know more about you and what you do on the Internet than anyone else. And they are accountable to almost no one.

If you are paranoid about your data....stop using the Internet.

Yup - I really should stop being so paranoid:

I was smiling reading this thread, but using a Daily Mail story to make a point actually made me laugh out loud. Sorry!

What's the government got to do with anything, that site was made by an independent bunch of developers that put trackers on certain torrents.

Its completely inaccurate too as said dynamic ip pools which most ISP use will throw the results off and not all torrents have the trackers. Any sensible downloader will be using VPN and ssl anyway.

Oh and dailymail.. Lol

You mean I should take everything in the Daily Fail with an extra large pinch of salt...

yeah but wasnt his name abu qatada , and his networking post to his mates was " off to kill the infidel , allah u akbar " ... so it shouldnt have come as a total shock

What government databases are they then ?
Any examples of this happening ?

Sure, everything can be traced and yes intelligence organisations do scan the internet, would you prefer they didn't ?

The OP earlier..

You should also have a serious think about changing your username!

Haha if the "government is watching what i download" it'll be (according to this site), 4 films ive never heard of and the big bang theory. Plus they also think i'm in Staffordshire :D

Apparently I'm in Gloucester and downloaded Joe McElderry. I'm not sure which one is the most unlikely!

All I get is..

Hi. We have no records on you.
This means you are using a private torrent tracker or, of course, you may not be a torrent user at all! It happens. Please, entertain yourself. Feel free to see what other people have downloaded. The search box is on the top. If you have any friends who use torrents, use it to scare them off. We also have a widget that you can install in your website, blog or Facebook page. Or you can just send them a link to this site. They will see a table similar to what you see below. The only difference — they will see their downloads.

Well, you are in the clear.

What's torrent anyway?

Just checked it out of sheer morbid curiosity, guess what??? ......same as Steve, no records..

What do they expect, i buy music on vinyl :)

Title Elephant.White.2011.x264.AC3-WAF
Size 1.37 GB

What a load of carp. an x264 would never be 1.37gb

piratebay shows a file that size with the same name..

oh dammit, now look what I've done, opened a naughty site, I can hear the black helicopters above the house already :D

Peer to peer sharing basically.

Ah! thanks :) I'm glad I don't have a Peer to share with anyone! Not that I want one anyway..... I think ;)

As I sit here in my tin foil hat, doors and windows boarded up, everything wrapped in bubble wrap, a shotgun by my chair and sky news on 24/7 I can't help to think maybe... just maybe I am being watched.
