I have the BG-E2N for my 30D and it works fine, but the little steel pin that goes in the bottom of the camera next to the tripod mount is too long, and the grip does not fit flat to the camera. I'm about to grind a tiny bit off the length to get it to fit tight.

Can anyone confirm that the pin is just a location pin and grinding a bit off will do no harm.

I seem to recall that pin was sprung on my grip, could be my poor memory tho... anyone else confirm or deny?

Thanks I think you maybe right.

I've just had a much closer look and it's not the pin, but the two little dimples on the bottom of the 30D.

I guess it's right that there is a tiny gap between camera and grip.

Mines the same, slight gap on the left as you look at the back of the body. PXL8, can't find a spring loaded bit?
