Beware when photographing owls!

Two words: Eric Hosking.
I think his autobiography was "An eye for a bird".
 
If I remember correctly, it's the Northern Hawk Owl that can dangerous bird as they have little fear about attacking anyone who gets to close to their nest.

He actually thought it gave him an advantage as he didn't need to close his non camera eye.

Yes, although he was wrong since you don't need to close your non camera eye as you can't train yourself to see through only one eye or indeed to switch between eyes.

I find having both eyes open makes BiF much easier.
