Yes
from this thread here this is the only place in the last few weeks I have used this card and today on my internet banking I have no funds in there.

Bloody hell how did they get your money?
hope you get it sorted :)
have posted in the other thread too did you pay by credit card ?

Not credit card but debit card.

Get it sorted on Tuesday hopefully.

Wife has already moaned that I should have done it on the credit card

Ouch, though as above, unless it's a very unusual mistake on their part, I wouldn't think Ebuyer were responsible.

This sounds like either a scam where at some point you've been redirected to a fake website (set up to look like Ebuyer, like hapoened with Amazon recently) or perhaps the computer you used to place the order is infected with some malware which has passed-on your card details (and God knows what else). Have you run the necessary scans, just in case?

Good luck, I hope you manage to get it sorted.

I seem to recall from another site that people's card details were used fraudulently after using ebuyer also play.com. Check google for more.

You've been defrauded. The link you followed was NOT EBuyer but a fraudster's site.

You have notified your bank, haven't you?

Ouch, some real sods out there. I've recently been hit by a scam too, so i can understand how your feeling.

check your /etc/hosts file contents (it is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts if you like taking the risk a lot :) )

Do you ever visit questionable websites on your browser, accidentally or not (we don't need the answer but this might give a clue)

As a paranoid person, I will never buy anything over windows machine. I will load linux or trust my mac, and will use a different web browser to my normal day to day browsing. It is quite paranoid, but it really works.

I'm nit even clicking on the link.
But I've use d buyer hundred of times with no problems. Been a while though as their prices had become less comoetetive

you're being paranoid without any understanding of the issue. If you had followed the same link as the op, no matter the OS or browser used, the result would have been the same.

well I can't see the link, but it was obviously one to ebuyer.com (a safe and trusty site I've used many times), unless somebody posted a dodgy link up there :shake: or OP's PC was infected to take him elsewhere.

Ebuyer has confirmed their "pricing error" in an email to me and that the order has been cancelled and IF money had been taken by them it had already been refunded.

Have posted this in the original thread.

If anyone has been scammed then it could only be through the original link. As a rule I do not "click through" links as this can lead to dodgh sites. Full internet security packsged (like Notton) do block such sites and throw up a screen warning in those instances.

I always go direct to sites I want to order from and check as much that it is the original and not a redirected one.

Hope anyone who lost cash can get assistance through their bank.

A friend had £900 taken from his account from cash machines in London over Xmas by scammers using a cloned card. At first his bank insisted it was his card. The fact that je was able to show he was in New Zealand over the same perod and using his card meant the bank fell back on his not protecting his PIN etc. Still being argued.

No, it wasn't a link to EBuyer despite the OP indicating that it was. And that was the problem. People using the link, thinking it was EBuyer, and having their payment details sucked out of them. As I have said, no amount of anti-virus/malware apps or paranoia will protect you against this.

As we move on in the IT world the experience grows. I keep my guarx up.

Dodgy webdites abound and my internet secutiyh pavkage chevks every web site and warns IF it is suspicious or contains malware etc It then blocks access till I decide that I aant to ihnotre it. I have been online in one form or another dince my 2,400 bps modem I used in the early 80s on an Open University voufse.

Never had any problems, never scammed or collected $35 million from an official in the Nigerian Government.

Think before you click.

this forum should really look into some software that filters out dodgy links like that. I hope mods are reading

How old is the card and has it been used before?
It could have been cloned at any time, anywhere it's been used, online or in person.
I'd be amazed if Ebuyer were the culprits, without doubt they'd have a secure checkout in place so unlikely anyone could see your card details.
Does your card ask you to go through any secure verification process once you get to the checkout?
Verified by Visa or similar?
Other than that, you could have a rogue keylogger installed. ;)

Have to agree with W.

It is a sad horrible fact that we are under constant attack by a wide variety of scammers phishers and malware spreaders.

If you went online to Ebuyer and paid throu a debit or credit card the the verification system has a one time 3 code authentication system which is of no use to any hacker that uses a keylogger.

Hopefully your bank will help.

Any news yet on what happened/where the money went?

Hi Guys sorry for the long wait, I was scammed, but nothing to do with Ebuyer. That was the only plce the card had been used in weeks but then again I have used it previously so maybe they just waited a while:shrug:

All sorted now:thumbs:

Anything I buy via the internet I pay for via Paypal and never have lost money by this method. Did once buy an article on e-bay that in actual fact never existed but PayPay sorted it and I got my money back. So from personal experience PayPal deserves 10 out of 10 for looking after their subscribers.

I will be totally honest eBay is always paid with pay pal, no excuses, and when buying on line I normally use the credit card, wife did have a go at me for not using it but it was a purchase for me not us if you know what I mean hence why I used MY card.

Lesson learned again.
