I just looked up the hosting website, Hippohost.co.uk, and guess what? Yes, it's identical in layout to the camera site, just different colour and images.
 
Just glad I didn't buy a 7D.
 
Take it as a lesson learnt i suppose....if you buy from an unknown online retailer, you should try and use a credit card, so it would cover you at times like this......
 
A lot of the pictures on the sites have been lifted straight from Ebay, complete with the Ebay watermark and the real seller's name!
 
The 50D price is £1,419.88 ....

It's a strange mix of companies also. Say about £45 to setup a Ltd company then he'd be looking at just over a grand to setup - not much considering the scams he'll probably pull off (if this is the case).

Ironically the hosting company is his also although it does have its own nameservers. Maybe he's an IT whizz or something and using such skills to setup lots of online businesses?

That and the hosting company bring GoDaddy, a well known harbourer of scam sites.

Not yet, My friend works for citizen advice bureau will give him a try first.
 
Sorry but this site just looks/feels dodgy, I'd not even give it the time of day, but if you do have to deal with "Iffy" sites always use a credit card (not debit or charge cards) then if it goes pear shaped it's their problem not yours.

Ironically, a former accountant operated from an office literally a few streets away - dodgy as hell and a long standing rep for ripping off companies through VAT & PAYE.

Here's a guy who he placed at my work about 6 years ago - he did a runner about 2 months after I started: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/1342914.stm

What angers me is that this guy Scott Lawson is probably claiming all sorts of benefits, which we pay for through our taxes - and then the little **** steals from us!!! It's probably an empty flat anyway, if not then he's very very stupid.
 
There seem to be so many reports of him ripping people off - why hasn't anything been done about him?

Looks like an easy candidate to bump up the local constabulary's conviction rate.

Anyways, i know Scoty....used to kick about with him tbh and he was insanely quiet, but a decent guy. I still find this hard to believe, but search flat4 or flat4online, especially on www.scoobynet.com and you will find DOZENS of threads on him.

Last time i spoke to him was a few years ago and that's considering my work is on the same street as his flat4online place.

God have i got some stories....such a shame he has to do this. :(

I think some people need supervision before being allowed on the Internet.

The site screams "scam" from the rooftops, nothing is credible about it.

While folks continue to fail to use commonsense (which sadly is rarer than it would appear!) sucker sites like this will keep thriving. Always check, doublecheck and check again before handing money to random websites.

EDIT - Just re-read this has it sounds harsh and like I'm attacking the OP (which I'm not).. but my opinion stands - always always check - if you see a site claiming to be copyright 2000-2009 do a search - did this company actually exist in 2000?.. can you find testimonials from previous customers? Any threads on line (good and bad from 2000?). Anyone can start a website, and you can buy an off-the-shelf site that will look (on the surface) legit - so look below the surface..! always pay with Credit Card.. never Paypal, never with Debit Card as you have mimimal chargeback rights. Use due diligence - and commonsense!
