Good evening.

Im thinking of going to betws y coed on saturday. Im hoping to get some pics of the waterfall (not sure how many there are)

Am i correct in thinking that in order to get a decent exposure of the waterfall and to blur the water, i will need an ND filter?

I would also appreciate any other suggestions on things to see in betws y coed :)

Many Thanks

Ian

I went to the falls last year and found life easier with an nd filter to get the effect i wanted.
As for other attractions in the area i didn't really look but it is a very nice area so i'm sure there must be something.
In case you haven't been before here's a couple of tips-
It's a pound to get in through the revolving gate,
Take your rucksack off BEFORE entering the gate or risk getting stuck ( yes i did )
Don't lean your tripod against the wall to get change out of your pocket as you may forget and it ends up costing you 3 quid (yes i did, in-out -in- out)
The steps are steeper than you think and very slippy ( yes i did, flat on my ass )
The spray gets everywhere so be careful if changing lenses. (need i say more)
Apart from that enjoy it, it's a beautiful place.

A polorizing filter acts as a good alternative to a ND, not as strong though as an 4 or 8ND.

Thanks for the reply Chris, i certainly know what to look out for now

a polarising filter might be a good idea as i probably cant afford an nd filter and adapter at the moment.

ND is always useful kit to have, but alternatively visit towards dusk.

edit- or if really brave, dawn

Just a thought - if you're in the middle of Betws, cross the beautiful bridge and walk along the river through the woods and fields...

a. the view is much nicer, the walk is calming, the river there has some beautiful photo opportunities and
b. when you get to the main fall it's free because you're the other side and don't have loads of people to contend with!

Thanks for everyones advice, im looking forward to it.

Falls probably look better in cloudy conditions, you won't need an ND filter then.

But a polariser is good anyway...it will remove reflections from wet rocks and cut down about 2 stops of light.

There are falls on both sides of Betws. Don't stick to the Swallow Falls. Buy an OS map to locate them all.

Posted saturday = too late....Hope you had a good trip.....
