Better starter camera

Hi all, been lurking for a while but first post so Hi.

I am new to photography and am getting a camera soon. I have seen 2 that I like/can afford and was just after some advice or recomendations.

The first is a 2nd hand Canon Powershot S3 is Digital compact with no warranty.

The second is a brand new Fuji S5700 with a 1 year warranty.

From the research ive done the Canon is better but should I be concerned that there is no warranty? It is from a photgraphers site not e bay or similar so I would think it has been well looked after.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I'd go with the Fuji, that super CCD of theirs really is soooper
not much of a fan of the canon bridge cameras, has a powershot G5, didnt keep it long, and that from a canonite!
 
Great, thanks for the advice, you have helped make up my mind on the fuji. Cant wait to get it now!!:D

I had the S5500 (in fact I still have but I've broken it a few times lol) and it was my step to DSLR-dom. :thumbs:
