After a couple of recommendations from other threads I've just received some "trial" prints from DSCL ( http://www.dscolourlabs.co.uk ).

I've previously used Photobox who have been a little disappointing recently but DSCL look to have solved my problem...

I ordered 2 18x12 inch Lustre prints - quality is excellent, they were supplied flat-packed & well protected (as opposed to the tubes supplied by PB).

Best of all is the price:

Photobox = £5.99 DSCL = £0.99 :thumbs:

Looks good. theres doesnt seem to be any discount on any sizes above 6x4" though.. whether you buy 1 or 100.

I will get a calibration print and give them a go.

For those who do weddings......do you use glossy ones automatically or do ask the b&g?

people should give foto.com a try :)! i advise on my order form which the b&g complete that prints are automatically done in glossy unless otherwise requested.

6.99 postage?

Only if delivered by City LInk - which to be honest is the last company I want to use...

Rates for Royal Mail are o.k...

http://www.dscolourlabs.co.uk/postage_ratesA.cfm

First Class £1.49 - £4.99

Recorded Post £2.49 - £5.49

Special Speical £5.99 - £8.99

City Link all orders £6.99

City Link pre 10.30am all orders £12.99

Air Sure all orders £8.00

... one more thing - they also supply ICC profiles for their printers which Photobox don't seem able to do !!

I tried the same company and got 4 12 x 10 lustre prints delivered for £5 all in, 3 were excellent one was a little bit iffy but for that kind of price will give them another go

I just ordered a couple of their school packs and have to say they are great, quick delivery and quality seems fine. Will be using them in the future, many thanks for the post Simon

No problem.....

I've also just received back some 7 x 5 "snaps" - also very good

I ordered 5 18x12's in Glossy and they are awesome...only 99p each

I use these guys as well, the prices are really incomparably cheap. Quality seems good as well, also the corrugated card backing that protects the photos are great for using for craft projects (me and my 5 yo daughter used the last batch as the baseboard for a volcano!)

I ordered some 10"x8" prints of my kids from them - I must say I'm impressed...

And to answer KIM, there is a reference number, and the filename (in my case, boys.jpg) printed on the back.

I will be using them again:)

DOn't mean do hi-jack thread but I've installed the icc profile for this printer, but it make all my images look a little faded when converted to this colour profile. Any ideas?

I've just installed it as well and found the same thing. Having said that I've ordered anyway as I just got back a photobox order which had about 12 prints with a horrible yellow cast on them. We'll see how they compare when they arrive

Cheers Dod at least I'm not the only one please keep us informed

Prints came in today. I also ran the same set with photobox for a comparison. The dscolourlab prints, using their profiles, are a MILE better than the photobox ones. Colours are richer, more saturated, delivery time was good, really can't complain.

Cheers Dod, thanks for the feedback. I requested a few late last night waiting for delivery.

Glad you are happy with the results

I have received a second order from this company and am well impressed with the quality, the price, the packing and the delivery times, well worth a try for anyone wanting good quality prints at a very good price. I used their profile too and my prints are all lustre which I do like. I dont think printing at home can come anywhere near this place with the price of inks and good paper.

 wouldnt you then adjust the print to how you want it to look with their CP assigned to it? So if it takes some colour out, use editing to bring it back, that kind of thing?

But why should I have to? The thing was I had a few prints on that order, some were fine, others weren't. With photobox you've to calibrate by guesswork. Most of the time they're fine, when they're not it seems terrible.

And from their site

Please bear in mind that if you supply the same image for printing posters and smaller prints, with an embedded profile you're likely to notice a difference in the printing. This is due to the profile being used in the posters but not the smaller prints.

To avoid this problem, some photographers choose to paste their smaller images onto a larger canvas, in order to have them printed on the Polieletronica, and then just trim them to size. This ensures all their prints take full advantage of the profile handling capabilities of our large format printers.

An hour ago I set off trying to use the DSCL website ( http://www.dscolourlabs.co.uk ). to upload some test shots, some in Gloss, some in Matt.

Well I have given up on there 1st option of uploading, as I couldn't work out how to put gloss and Matt together in an order. I also wanted to try a gift school pack, but couldn't work out how to select this as an option when im in the photo part. The button to proceed was right at the bottom of my screen (such that i saw a green glow but not the button) - there was no scroll bar, and so I gave up.

I'm now trying the html upload routine to see if it is any better. I hope so!

Has anyone else found a way of doing this?
