I'm on Orange and very happy with their service, apart from the rubbish Netgear N150 wireless router they supplied me when my "Livebox" packed up. It's got terrible range and, more frustratingly, seems to find it near impossible to connect to Xbox Live reliably. If I keep trying it will connect on the third of fourth attempt. I've opened the ports that Xbox recommend and tried all Netgear's solutions but the problem persists. From a Google search it appears that the N150 is the bottom end of Netgear's range and pretty useless in all respects :(

So.....

I've decided to bite the bullet and buy a decent router. I'm considering the Netgear N600 but before comitting, I was wondering if anyone might have any experience or opinions on this router, or could perhaps recommend an alternative.

Many thanks :)

Take a look at the Linksys range

I've always used Linksys as they are basically Cisco, who are a major player in IT networks

Ah ok. Thanks Tony. I've always stuck with Netgear but I guess you're right, always worth looking at the options.

Look at any that you can configure the port forwarding settings. I had the Same sort of issue with my netgear untill I managed to foreword the correct ports it also helps if you give your Xbox a static ip address. If you struggle try Xbox support via twitter they were very helpfull. There is a list on there web site that list routers that are compatible.
