Needing some help, Im needing a website for sharing photos. But I tried 500px and I think its good for sharing more creative photos but I need something for sharing my niece's birthday, cousins weddings and so on.

Alot of people ask me for the photos but I dont think 500px is what I need. Handing out dvd's is expensive and time consuming plus my family in countries cant always get them.

So am I missing the right settings in 500px? I dont want or like facebook for sharing them, I ideally need to give someone a fairly simple url like 500px.com/whatever. Is flikr better or? Ideally something like I can have different albums.

Thanks for your time

I can't see you having a problem with Flickr. Sharing photo's is what it was designed for.

I have a Flickr account and never had a problem, nice an easy for sharing. I think a lot on this forum use it.

Try Zenfolio, mine is at http://www.gcsportsphotos.co.uk

Flickr is free unless you buy a PRO account. You can choose who sees what and its a very easy interface to use. Its what it was designed for. You get a flickr.com/xxxxx url too.

500px is great, but its not a generic photo sharing site, its more a portfolio and showcase of your best images site.

I need something like that zenfolio as it can be split into albums or folders. For example if I put an album of my car up, my brothers inlaws probably won't care about those pictures and just want to see pics of their grand daughter without sifting through non relevant pics like 500px.

I don't even mind paying a fee as long as it's good. Is zenfolio just sports photography or is that your page customised?

Thanks again

Its for any style of photography and is massivly customisable, i have the pro account which costs £60 a year, i can sell prints via photobox if required, unlimited uploads, file size and storage, if you want to sign up then let me know and i have a 10% off referral code you can use so its even cheaper

after the demise of fotopic i searched long and hard and theres simply nothing to beat Zenfolio

It's really a toss up between smugmug and zenfolio. Have you tried smugmug?

Can't see past Picasa. Easy to use and photos found fast with the intuitive GUI

Yes, did them for 30 days on their pro package, support was rubbish, front end not as easy to get on with and structuring galleries, groups etc was hit and miss, if you need to you cant print in the UK and US charges are silly, with Zenfolio you have a choice of UK based printers and support is first class.

Someone i know has the Pro account on Smugmug, ill let you judge which is best by viewing his

That Zenfolio looks pretty impressive! Might look into that for future use!

Your right about smugmug. Some pages where ok but some are abit what. Zenfolio seems to be easier to navigate on all pages pro or otherwise.

I'm looking at the unlimited package it's £50 but I'm sure the Americans get it for $50 or is that not right?

Dont go for the unlimited package, it has branding on every page, go for the premium and buy it in dollars, you basically get the premium site for the UK unlimited price, you also get the client presentation iPad app which is brilliant, watermarking, standard or totally custom, Upload your own custom logos, Remove Zenfolio brand from all visitor pages, Upload PDF files and link to them from your site menu, Option to use external homepage with Zenfolio account and loads of other useful extras you dont get with the unlimited package.

Buy it through the US outlet and not the UK, USE THE FOLLOWING LINK https://secure.zenfolio.com/zf/signup/plans.aspx?loc=en-US which prices in US dollars, the premium US plan is 100 dollars (£61) but the premium UK plan is £100, its exactly the same plan just cheaper for our US cousins, dont forget to ask for my referal code which will also give you another 10% off making the premium package about £55 for a whole year.

Thank you very much Gary you are a legend. Could you pm me your referral code please?

Thanks again

Completely agree - Zenfolio is brilliant but for the OP's needs, flickr would be ideal IMO. Yes, it does not allow the level of customisations that a pro Zenfolio account would give you but for amateur use, it's more than adequate. And it is a whole lot cheaper!

I considered Zenfolio 3 years ago when I was evaluating photo hosts but opted for a flickr pro account instead. Never looked back. At $25 a year, nothing else comes close.

500px is very good but as others have mentioned, it is more geared towards showcasing your best work and not for uploading many hundreds of family snapshots.

+1 for Zenfolio.
Im currently trialling it and definayely moving over from Photoshelter.
PS only allows 2 custom pages !!!!! And restricts your look alot unless you are a code head.
Zenfolio makes editing everything a dream

V impressed and only £60 / year.

I use zenfolio and have done for a couple of years. I love it... I take photos of sailing events and the digital download setup is unbeatable, I just sit back and watch the sales roll in :)

Simple, fast and very cost effective

Thanks to Gary, I got my zenfolio account.

You actually led me onto my next question, at the moment it shows next to a picture buy this for 10p or 19p and so on, I didnt set this pricing it was already in place. If someone placed an order for lets say 10 x 10p prints and paid for them. Would zenfolio outsource this to its printers and then send it to the person who ordered it?

Also per 10 pictures or per picture how much do you make?

Thanks

when you set up each seperate gallery you are have the option to allow print sales or not, if you do you then need to set custom pricing, you can then choose to allow Zenfolio fulfill your orders which means printing and shipping from the USA or set it to one of the UK printshops including Photobox or you can set it just to email you with the photos people have ordfered then you do the printing yourself through any online printer you choose or do them at home

You set your own prices so decide how much you make yourserlf
