Ok, what I want to do is work out the best way to set up my iMac for LR4, whilst also being able to backup. I have a May 2011 27" iMac i5 wtih 12gb RAM, a 1TB hdd. Attached to it is a 1TB 2.5" HDD which is backed up to. I have connected wirelessly, a time machine which is used for mac backups and also contains my RAW files that I work from and the finished Jpegs etc.

I find the whole process a little slow and I have to 'find' the RAW files on the TM every time I open up LR, which is a little annoying. My catalogue is stored locally on my internal HDD.

So what I want is a way to speed my workflow, stop the disconnections and back up safely and effectively.

2 caveats- no ethernet wiring (not possible) and no fiddling around inside the iMac (I don't want to replace the hard drive in there- looks too complicated!).

So, what do you recommend? New storage? Best place to keep RAW files, catalogues etc?

Have gone for a 3TB WD my book studio using fw800. I figure a single hdd can't saturate fw, let alone thunderbolt. Am moving stuff over to it and will sort out my backups to the timecapsule and other drives after its all moved over.

Since moving from MacBook to iMac I've replaced my time capsule with a FW800 drive as the iMac doesn't move, back ups and file access are much faster!

Initial use seems to indicate that the new setup is better and that trying to slim down too far may have been a step too far!
