best way to download images

whats the best way to download my images from a canon 400d to my pc, at the moment i'm just using the usb lead from the camera to my pc as i've not got a card reader seems a little slow, would a card reader speed things up :)
 
Yeah, considerably. I don't like the way the files are sorted into folders when you do that though.
 
Use elements 6 it's downloads them for you too and it's great for sorting, I do same and it's fast enough, also gives you the opportunity to shoot in raw and edit the image before you save as jpeg :D
 
I used to do this with my D200, but it kills the battery dead, so bought a card reader instead, much easier plus i don't have to re-charge my batteries every 2 mins

Card readers are so cheap these days they are really worth getting.

Also depends on what computer you have, you may already have a card reader fitted to the front fascia
 
Remember to copy them off the card, not move them! Only format the card (in the camera) the next time you take pictures, the if the worst happens you will still have your RAW files on your card...
 
I create a directory within windows explorer and blast them straight from my card reader
