First sorry if this is in wrong section.

Just posted one Raynox lens RMSD and staggered by the £7.20 cost.

I am due to sell few more things like camera and lenses so what is the best/most economical way of doing it these days?

Thanks for any help

RMSD and allow for it in the selling price? or Parcel Force can work out reasonably for larger items. TBH RMSD for lighter stuff is normally fairly compettive

Most things over the size of a letter I send out via UPS. Up to 25 kilos at their local drop shop (which opens at something stupid like 4am) is £7.79 and properly tracked. Collect here costs about a pound more. I book them via Interparcel.

http://www.interparcel.com/ - they may have some other options you prefer.

I posted a phone via RM tracked delivery a while back. 7 weeks later we are still discussing whether they should compensate me for losing it.......

Hermes are cheaper via their own site but they can take a while and some people don't like them ;)

i use collect plus 48 hour ,which has always turned out to be next day ,as elsewhere cost all depends on value of item and insurance needed

RMSD always, it's good value considering the speed of delivery and the no quibble insurance.

If I'm not sending RM I just go through interparcel

http://www.interparcel.com/

Just enter weight, length, width, height - get quote.

Various couriers are quoted so just choose your preferred option.

I may have inadvertently underestimated weight and dimensions in the past but they never checked on collection.

Under £50 value you may as well send RM Signed For if you haven't made allowance for the postage in the selling price.

It would have cost between £2.34 and £4.30 depending on the exact service you choose and size/weight of the item.

if you need the larger insurance cost them RMSD is actually quite reasonable. just remember to factor in the cost when selling.

small cheap items i always use hermes. watch their low insurance and exclusion lists however.

Just realised why it was £7+ because my wife posted it thinking it would be nice for it to be sent guaranteed before 1.00 when I said anytime next day which would have been just over £4!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought RMSD is gauranteed before 1.00pm, she hasn't used the before 09.00 service?

Here be the Royal Mails online calculator.

What I was saying is that RMSD is gauranteed for delivery before 1.00pm. The only other option is before 09.00. These are the only two services for RMSD. Your wife picked the standard service.

The option which you would have picked would have been 1st Class Service for £4.30 looking at your post below.

The benefit with RMSD is the compensation that is available with the service if sending expensive items. I do a bit of ebaying and the prices for RM have gone very expensive over the last couple of years, but from my experience they are the best if you want guaranteed next day deliverey with compensation cover. I use Hermes now for larger lower / value items now.

1st class isnt a next day service, the "1 day service" bit is misleading :)

edit: they mustve changed it, 1st class was always aimed to be an estimated 2-3 days but could take up to a week. ive never known 1st class arrive next day unless it was posted locally to the destination.

edit 2: seems they've changed the wording but its not guaranteed 1 day service..

"Is my item guaranteed to arrive next day?
Although we aim to deliver 93% of 1st Class mail the next working day after posting, we are unable to provide a guaranteed service. For guaranteed next day delivery we recommend Special Delivery Guaranteed™."

Signed for, has no guaranteed delivery day, but a signature is required for delivery.
RMSD is next working day before 1pm with signature requirement.
Before 9am delivery is also available on RMSD but I wouldn't waste the cash paying for it, as the chances of it turning up before 9am are about the same as the chances of fertilising your begonias with rocking horse poo.

Depends on where you're selling - I'd ask how they want it posting and how much it would cost them (on here for example), but it would be signed (as a minimum) for whichever way it was posted.

Only if you happen to be a business that doesn't open till 9am or CBA to answer the door early.
We are not allowed to knock on doors until 7am, and any 9am next day special deliveries that
arrive are taken out early as unfortunately we still have our normal jobs to do.
If the business is not open or the people at the address don't answer the door then obviously
they won't get the item, they will get a card telling them it can be picked up at the local office.

.

I'm in the office by 7.45 Monday to Friday.
RMSDs (pre-9am) never arrive until post 10am.

Complain, or get the sender to, you won't get anything changed unless you do, if delivery
hasn't been attempted then they can claim compensation

Have you ever checked the tracking on them, bet there is a failed delivery attempt prior to that
and yes it would have to be at your office unless you are next door to the delivery office
as the scanners have GPS, if they haven't left a card it is probably because your postie
is bringing it with him, no point in leaving a card telling you it is available to collect when he
has it on the van.

1st class - you have to wait at least 10 working days before you can even politely mention to them that it might be nice if they deliver it soon. Then they take a while to tell you to post your original proof of posting to them with various nonsense for a claim. Then they wait another 10 working days then they check they have all the bits and if they don't they silently disallow your claim. RMSD took 5 days once and they pointed to some small print that explained why this was fine.

As I say, it's been over 7 weeks now. Since it was a phone and somebody has clearly stolen it, the chap I spoke to asked if I had the IMEI number. "Yes, and we could have stopped the thief selling it on seven weeks ago. Now, I'm guessing there's not much point....".

Also, the main post office are consistently rude to people. Can you see why I use UPS? :D

It's business related mail.
It makes no odds to me if it's pre 9 or pre 1.
Senders are informed.
I have no clue how they choose to act.

So why moan then, suppose it's easier to do it on the internet then actually contacting RM
and asking them

I don't believe I moaned.
I simply stated the facts of poor service.
As for contacting RM, why would I?
You already said inform the sender just a couple of posts ago and I already said I do.
I think that just about covers it.
