i have been contemplating this for a while.

at the moment i have a tamron 17-50 and the 55-250 IS, as some of you may remember im off round the world in aug/sept and im unsure about what kit to take.

do i want the 55-250IS or a fisheye, i know there two totaly different lenses, but im not sure if i will really use the long zoom very much. as only really shooting land/cityscapes etc. but there will be time when i want a close up, that i will regret not taking my zoom.

the main problem, is not the room or weight to take both, its money, id have to sell the 55-250 to fund the fisheye. as were saving so hard i have practically no spare income.

so whats the best value fisheye, id really like it to zoom a little for flexaility, ive looked at the peleng but for £300 nearly, seems you can get a tokina 10-17 for not alot more, and its got to be better, right ?

any input would be great.

also if someone could list all the fisheyes that would fit a cropped 30d sensor, and still retain fisheye, not like the canon 15mm and the other brand 16mm one.

The Tokina is a great wee lens, far better than the likes of the Peleng. I wouldn't recommend one as a main lens though, they're okay for occasional use, but in all honesty unless you can afford to buy one as a "toy" then get a regular wide angle lens instead.

well im happy enough with my tamron 17-50 for a wide.

i think id have more fun with a fisheye than a UWA, dont get me wrong id love a UWA also, but again its the cost.

ive found the tokina for £320 new, good price ?

yer from microglobe, only thing is i dont have all the money yet, and i bet by the time i do it would have gone up AGAIN lol

I don't know about other people, but I'm confused about your talk of wanting a fisheye, but then wanting an ultra wide angle lens. Do you want a fisheye - a lens which gives a circular image? Or a semi-fisheye, which gives a very distorted view in a standard rectangular frame? Or an ultra-wide - say 10mm, which gives a more normal perspective?

The Tokina 10-17mm is what they call a full-frame fisheye , meaning it produces an image that fills the full sensor area, rather than a circular image.

Confusingly though, it is designed for APS-C cameras, not full frame ones.

im after a linear fisheye, like the tokina.

ill take what ever i can get cheaply really, not overy fussed so long as its not 8mm or below, dont want a circular one.

i take it the zenitar 16mm is not aot of good on a cropped sensor ?

I recently got a Tamron 11-18mm UWA for my 400D. Lots of fun with a pleasing amount of barrel distortion at 11mm, for artistic effect. I love it and use it much more frequently than my 90-300mm for cityscapes.
Just to add to your purchasing confusion.
