Hello again.

There seem to be a number of places selling second hand cameras etc - eBay being an obvious one.

I would like to find a good genuine dealer who isn't a cowboy, but the net seems full of them, and I;m not sure where to head.

Can anyone give me any advice for online stores that they have had good experiences with.

Also - can I ask what the general feeling is on the "refurbished/re-conditioned" cameras? SOme have a 6 month warrenty, but not sure what is involved in a camera re-furb, so not sure if these are bargins or something I should stay away from?

thanks in advance

Steve

Hi
I bought my Nikon D40 as a refurb with the six months Nikon warranty. Mine only had a few hundred activations. Had it about 3 months now with no problems. I bought it from Carmarthen Cameras and found them very good to deal with. They usually have a list of refurbs available on their web site.

The link above seems to do the job lol. Personally I look round the London camera exchange.. They have a reasonable website and a few branches to shop around!

I have just bought a refurb d90 from a seller on the 'bay. They have a shop in Cardiff so I called in rather than buy off the web. No complaints so far, the camera seems spot on it only had a couple of hundred shots on it. I read somewhere that the refurb units get personal care so they should be more reliable- i've no idea if this is true so take it with a pinch of salt.

Oh, and the shop provides a twelve month warranty as opposed to the six month usually provided on the refurbs.

London camera exchanege, I was looking for a body there and they all seems to be demaged.
MPB is a good website, good condition items for resonable prices.
Also look on ebay for shops, check feedbacks. I ve got few lenses from ebay stores and im very happy about them.

CEX - Complete Entertainment Exchange
just search CEX in google [y] they have lots of good stuff...

I have used Mifsuds before and they are very good and helpful. Prices seem very fair also.

But be sure to check it out in person rather than rely on their description.

I went in to purchase a Sigma 70-200 that was advertised; turned out it was a 70-300 and they tried to convince me it was a better lens! There are many reports of people purchasing from them online and taking forever to get a refund when the item isn't in the condition promised.

Having said that, they can have good prices on phones!

I looked at a D100 in a local one, it was broken and they wanted top rate for it.

I had some terrible aftersales service from them despite spending a few £k and now avoid them like the plague. Any idiot can sell a fully functional piece of kit. The real test of customer service is how retailers react when things don't according to plan. Mifsuds left me hanging. I fought for, got a refund and bought locally instead.

Another vote for SRS - top outfit.

FFords and Mifsuds have stood the test of time so they must be doing something right.
