Best Song Intro?

I think the intro's are one of the things that define The Smiths songs....on The Queen is Dead every single song has a great intro!!

As Johnny Marr says even people that don't like The Smiths admit How Soon is Now is pretty special.

:clap::clap::clap:

I'm not a liker of The Smith's, for me, once the manic depressive starts singing the song's gonna go down hill big time, making the intro the only thing worth listening to.
I liked How soon is now, as the first time I heard it, it was a looped instrumental version for a Jeans advert. Love Spit Loves cover version from the film The Craft and subsequently the tv show Charmed is so much better vocally wise.

The thing is with Morrissey is that you have to understand him to like his music.
I do understand him totally, which is why I love him so much.
All the depressing songs aren't necessarily depressing, or at least not intended to be...........

I could go on all day about this, and you still wouldn't agree.
But like I said, if you 'get it', it's very different.

In a worrying kind of way, my life and everything I do, say, believe in etc actually stems from him.
You don't realise you are doing it, but he has this weird control over you when you listen to his music.
That's how influential he is........

<time to shut up Fozzy - you are making an arse of yourself>

:D

The last two John Lewis advert's have both used Smith's songs....the last one in entirety. The advert has been heavily praised and I haven't heard one person say the lyrics are depressing...........

Who would have thought 25 years on John Lewis would be using The Smiths in their adverts:D

The problem with the smiths isn't the music. It's the tone deaf singer! Singers must sing in tune. He can't.

I wasn't even aware John Lewis had any adverts. Shows how much of an impact they must have.

You'd have thought WH Smiths would have beaten them to it :D

Stiff Little Fingers- Alternative Ulster
Stiltskin-Inside
Sting-An Englishman in New York
Stranglers-Peaches (I defy you not to strut to it)

..and thats just the St's. (Guess which part of the alphabet my ipod is at the moment!)

He sings flat and with a nasal quality that is unacceptable for a quality front man.

I remember him appearing on TOTP in the 80s with a branch sticking out of his trousers. He's a prat regardless.

As you can tell I have always hated the smiths. If you want decent quality misery then Joy Division and Mr Cohen are much better at it. :D

He's a rich and very successful recording and LIVE artist.

His gigs are always sell out - bar none.

He has fans in just about every corner of the world. Prat or not...........
