Best shows on Prime/Netflix?

"Carry On" is one of those films that could and should have gone down the super realistic path because overarching plot and actors would have been resilient enough to maintain tension and interest. The outlandish Hollywood silliness ruined it for me.

I've been binging "House of Cards" until something better comes along.

Never trust a politician :ROFLMAO:

Been really enjoying FROM . Half way through the 3rd series.
Stangely just chuck you right in from the get go no lead up.

struggled with this and might abandon
some of the characters are just OTT

Anyone get into DUNE?

way to spaced out for me

I read the books years ago. Really like the two films, but no idea on the TV show.

Books awesome - films not so - better than previous attempts and so long as you dis-associate them from the books are good on their own but as a die hard fan of the books there is so way too much not in the films that gives the depth of the books - for obvious reasons - they are big books !

Fortunately (for me) I can only recall some of the basics, so the last two films are fine from my point of view. I worked on the previous debacle :ROFLMAO:

I've enjoyed all of the various Dune books and films. Again, just entertainment, with the films not to be taken too seriously.

The new films were the first time I'd had any interaction with the Dune universe and I wasn't that keen on the first Dune film because I think I wasn't really understanding everything. When I watched it again though I actually enjoyed it a lot more and I think it does a good job giving the feel of the Dune universe, I'm not entirely sure on the second film which feels like it's packing a lot in and again I found I didn't pick a lot up on my first watch.

I then went onto the books but I wasn't keen on the Frank Herbert books because his style is to not introduce or explain major technology, factions or changes and somehow you're just supposed to know about them. I've gone onto the prelude trilogy and finished the first book House Atreides which takes the opposite approach properly introducing the Ixian and Bene Tleilax factions, a wider view on the Heighliners and how they work, the basis of the no-ship technology etc. Sometimes it goes a bit far trying to explain everything like Jessica's mother and the source of the Baron's gluttony but on the whole it gives me the better understanding of the Dune universe I was looking for.

I find it particularly fascinating seeing how closely Warhammer 40K followed Dune and on that note I've been giving Secret Level on Amazon Prime a go which is a series of shorts by Tim Miller's Blur audio each based on games. I've been a big fan of some of their work particularly the incredible Halo 2 Anniversary cutscenes but I've not been too taken with this series, it's tricky to pace a short story and I've not been that impressed with it.

Dune 2 the computer game from a long time ago was the first time I'd come across the Dune universe lol

I like the first film, but struggled a little with the second. Might give it a second chance.

There's so much going on, I think both deserve a second watch, just to pick up on everything.

Just started watching "American Primeval". Pretty brutal early days western. Good stuff so far (y)

I saw it ping up on the features bit and was wondering about it. Worth a watch?

I'm three episodes in. Really liking it, but it is brutal and bloody ;)

I'll watch it in parallel with Squid Game Season 2 lol

Amazon Prime | On Call

Long Beach cop drama, has a similar feel as Southland. Really enjoying it so far.

I thought the films were ok. Like someone else has said, the second film explained a fair few things in the first one and it made more sense afterwards. I’m not convinced so much by the tv series…. it’s well produced, sumptuous to look at and they’ve obviously spent a lot of money on it but although I watched the whole series I didn’t enjoy it much. The plot is fairly impenetrable until about halfway through the series, which doesn’t help…. I presume it makes more sense if you know the books.

I bing watched Squid Game 2 over the past couple days

Has anyone watched 'The walk in'? [mini series] or 'Carry on' [movie]

On the last episode of Squid Game 2 and a little disappointed so far. Feels weak compared to the first one, although it was a tall order to follow.

Yeah same, but I looked at it as just first half of the season, with only 7 episodes. You kinda know after ep 4 or 5 that this won't be the end

Just finished the last episode about 10 mins ago. My least favourite episode. Don't want to say any spoilers, although it was pretty obvious all along if you know what I mean.

Also, love those 200 round magazines lol

Ha yea, wouldn't be Asian tv if there weren't some over elaborate scenes :)

For me, still think the best shows I've watched (both twice now) are...

The Expanse
Queen of the South
Altered Carbon (first series is better imho).
All Star Wars films, and The Mandalorian (because I'm a SW geek) ;)

I think you would have to be a 'SW geek' to recommend 'all' of the films! :$

Speaking of Star Wars, Andor was one of the best TV ever, imho, and The Acolyte was one of the worst. You get the full range with Star Wars. Again imho. ;)

Currently rewatching Fate: The Winx saga :ROFLMAO: I loved the cartoon and saw S1 when it first aired, now I'm doing my rewatch + watching S2.

I agree some are better than others ;) Andor is a great show (looking forward to the next series). The Acolyte was pants, as was Obe Wan :(. I'm still in two minds regarding Skeleton Crew ;)

The Acolyte......[shudder].....

Just started Black Doves (I think someone mentioned it here last month) and it's good so far, thankfully keeps things reasonably controlled and not OTT. Keira Knightley is doing well, I particularly liked Official Secrets as well.

3 of my best watches have all come from Prime

1) Bosch
2) The Lincoln Lawyer
3) Reacher

I normally love sci-fi, but there has been some awful attempts on Netflix, Pime etc. Altered Carbon was one of the better ones, and the Manolorian series were great too.

Watched Darkgame on Saturday night. I enjoyed it, even if some of the acting was a little awkward. Think Squid Game plus Saw and you're kind of getting there with this film. Not for kids.

I agree with LL and Reacher, but couldn't get into Bosch at all. The Night Agent was good.

The recruit
The diplomat
Kin- was excellent
Gangs of london
Treason

Other Netflix
Into the night and the spin off yakamoz s 245 were good

I like The Diplomat also, next series will be interesting as the President has just snuffed it....

Oh I'd forgotten about that, when's the next season coming out?

2 seasons so far. If you like that, give the night agent a go. Season 2 imminent ;)

Any news on season 3 though, I believe it's been renewed but no word on when?

I've watched the Night Agent, quite liked it, a few annoyances but overall good.

No not to my knowledge as yet.

Well there's always gonna be something that irks in almost everything nowadays.

I think it was those two agents always out to screw him over, they were just a bit silly. Was a decent show though.

Oh god yeah. They were a waste of space.

It was never going to be the same without Sid James, Kenneth Williams etc... :p

Any recommendations for films/series to watch on Prime/Netflix?

Tend not to be a fan off American stuff which rules out most them! Found things like Succession too dull although did like The Flight Attendant.

Stuff I tend to like is often WW2 based or at least 1900-1960 ish - Like Vienna Blood, Babylon Berlin, and about to finish Ashes to Ashes as didnt see that first time around!

Watched Carry On last Saturday night, very good.
