As the title says, looking to get into home printing instead of buying more lenses, bags and bodies.

Was looking at the Canon pixma pro 100s A3+ printer but anyone know of better under £500 ?

I don't care about speed or if it has wifi, just want best image quality I can get so I can hang them on the wall in my house.

Wow nobody have these printers or similar. Doesn't look good

I'd look to pick up a used Canon Pro1 I had an Pro100 for about 12 months but upgraded to the Pro1 (only down to Calumet having them at less then £400 at the time of one of their open days!)

Just been looking at reviews from users and many were saying about high running cost of £10 for just the ink alone for an A3 print. Together with the high cost for a used product with likely no warranty its not worth it in my opinion

can a MOD move or shut this down then please ?

Unless you are printing regularly, or want the high degree of control afforded by printing your own (i.e. closely matching your screen, choice of papers, etc), you are better off getting your stuff printed by a lab.
Packs of good A3 paper aren't cheap, and neither are ink cartridges - bare in mind that some of these have 8 or more.

My own experience is that successful home printing is as much having a good 'printable' image in the first place, and I don't mean one that just looks nice or is interesting to look at. It's about getting an image right in terms of contrast, sharpness, etc. I've wasted hours of my life (and a lot of money) getting prints that I'm happy with. But I do have very high standards as I exhibit my work.

On the positive side, when it all goes well, the quality of prints I get off my printer are superb, better than I'd get from a lab.

I haven't counted how many prints I get from a set of carts on my Pro-10 - I think per ml the ink is probably a bit pricier than the Pro-1. But I don't consider that the cost of an A3+ would be anything like that much.

You have to use these printers regularly or the cleaning cycles consume a disproportionate amount of ink. The Pro-1 'consumes' quite a bit of ink from its first set of carts to charge the lines that plumb the head to the carts. Cost of carts can vary - 'list' prices are high - they can usually be bought cheaper.

For an occasional user one of these Epson or Canon printers is a luxury. The benefit is that *you* get to make the print. Whether that is important to you or not depends on you. The downside is that you have to find space of large lump of kit - with space to allow feeding of paper as well as output - you have to keep it supplied with carts and you probably end up with a stock of different papers - some of which may be quite expensive.

I have the Epson SC-P600 and I use Marrutt inks. I don't find the cost of printing to be particularly prohibitive. Yes, it probably costs more than a lab, but I was finding with a lab I never sent off for prints due to the cost of delivery on an individual print.

I don't print very often and I've never had to clean my heads. The main thing that blocks the heads is dust and paper particles as the ink only drys when it comes into contact with this. By not printing on cheap fibrous paper and keeping the covers closed and the printer covered in a dust sheet when not in use means I've never had a head block.

If I haven't used it in a very long time, I run through a nozzle check print, if all is good I close it up again.

Canon Pixma Pro 100 for me, stunning printer, but my god it's huge and heavy, make sure you have available workspace for these A3 printers as they take a lot of desk space.
