Afternoon all,

I was thinking about loading Photoshop on to my new laptop, as i havent had chance since my old laptop crashed and burned!
It got me thinking, it always seemed so slow to edit things and i ended up getting a bit annoyed with it. I'm in the mood to buy some new software (depending on cost) so what PP Software does everyone prefer and why?
Ill base my decision on your reviews! :thumbs:

It depends on what type, and amount of editing, you plan on doing. :shrug:

If it's straightening, cropping, brighten/darken and sharpening, then Picasa (free from Google) maybe all you need.

After that there are free and paid routes to more and more editing options which will depend on what you want to do. :shrug:

If your new computer is reasonably powerful and modern, (as oppsed to a new S/H coputer;)) with quite a bit of RAM, then the speed of Photoshop shouldn't be a problem.
 
As most PP software can be trialled for a month or so free it would make most sense to see what you like rather than go on too many others opinions.
Many will say Photoshop - it has to be the most complete program. It is also one of the most expensive and by nature of its size, most complicated to learn as I guess you must know !
Elements is way easier and cheaper - I have Elements 10 though as still struggling with it, in part down to lack of knowledge and skill..
Lightroom seems very popular - I have not tried it though I believe it to be fairly similar to ACDSee Pro which I use almost all of the time as I find it very easy to use.
There are many others, some free.

Given that you must know at least a little about Photoshop why not stick with it - maybe your new laptop will be much faster ? I have to agree with you that even Elements seems slow - slow to load and do things on my pc compared to ACDSee.
 
Yes my new laptop is faster with 5Gb DDR3 RAM as opposed to my nakkered old HP which i think had 2Gb.

I was using Elements 7 so i'll try it on this laptop and see how it goes.
I wasnt aware that most products have free trials so if i dont get on with PSE7 ill start working my way through the free trials.

The main thing im going to me using it for is adjusting RAW files, i.e. exposures, white balance etc, as well as the usual sharpening, cloning out things etc.

Lightroom is very good and it's even cheaper now it's a very good intuitive program for post production
 
Aperture, unless you have a PC then Lightroom, that would my call.
 
A lot depends of what your doing with your images, are you just "tweeking" the colours exposure etc or are you into more serious editing, swopping bits of images, lots of cloning etc?
 
I used to do the odd bit of cloning, but apart from that it was just adjusting the colours, exposures, sharpening etc. I wouldnt know where to start with anything more involved than that, but if i've got the software to hand then i've got the opportunity to learn :)

Lightroom is something EVERY photographer should at least try.
