Hi

What is the best pocket camera on the market.

Is there a pro one?

this will be used as a silent camera during a wedding ceremony.

Money is not an issue.

Cheers.

Canon G11 is a good camera. Lots of "pro" fuunctions as well.

If I was looking at buying a compact, I would look at the Leica D-Lux-3.

Just a personal preference of course.

Golly that's hard.

Panasonic LX5? I would have said GF1 but they make a (little) noise.

PS. I think that the Leice D Lux 3 is actually a Panasonic LX2 and therefore although lovely (I have a LX2) just a little behind the times now.

G11 is quite large to be called "pocket" :D

Canon S90 or S95?

I've played with the new G12 - image quality is stupendous.
I'd put it on a par with a 40D using good glass.
Razor sharp lens corner to corner and usable high ISO (my tests at ISO 1600 were most impressive).
A huge step on from the last generation LX3 (which I have) and equivalent G10/G11.

G12 reviews are only just starting to come out.
The most startling I've seen so far are the G12 test shots added into the DPReview Enthusiast Compact Group Test - the G12 is way better then the rest.

Leica M9 + lens to suit? Might be a little too big to slip into a suit pocket but a lot smaller than either of the Nikons listed in the OP's camera box. Well, he did say money no object!

If you really want one that will fit into a trouser pocket then the Canon s90 or s95 is the only decent choice.

Well, to quote your original post,

You could of course settle for an M8 and its shortcomings but according to most reviews I've seen, the M9 is better and you did ask for the best!

I've got an S90 and which I love and shooting in RAW and using Lightroom 3's noise reduction gives me perfectly usable images for normal size prints at ISO1600.

I love being able to shoot manual with live view.

It's not quite 'pocket' sized but my Canon G11 fills that function for me when I don't want to take an SLR. It fits in a large pocket or handbag very easily and I've been delighted with the image quality in all sorts of conditions.

the canon g11 or g12 arent exactly pocket cameras.

Canon s95/s90 are more like it and right up there in terms of features

Indeed! Not really sure what the difference between the S90 and S95 is? Is it just the HD video on the S95?

Does a G12 not fit in the pocket then?

Look at the 'DPreview Canon S95 compare page', ISO 1600 even better than G12 IMHO and its a true 'pocket' camera . . .
