Yes
I'm starting to think about this years trip and trying to think of a suitable location so thought i'd ask here!

Where in the world do you think would be best for a photography trip?

I remember seeing someones thread about their trip to Arizona and the Grand Canyon - All pics taken with an LX3 I think it was - The shots were bloody awesome, lovely blue skies contrasting with the colour of the rock. Looked ace.

Tasmania...awesome place...so diverse

Luton...

Seriously though, The Grand Canyon was something else..

Maldives, while they're still there, great for underwater stuff

I really want to go to Antarctica. Not cheap mind, but I reckon it'll be worth it.

New Zealand

Oz

Iceland

USA

Canada

China

India

Africa

South America

When do you want to go...for how long....on what budget?

Depends on what you want to shoot really so if you cannot make up your mind then do a round the world trip covers every base then:D

seriously though I think every country has some sort of beauty about it.

There is alot of beautyfull scenery in the alps, I went from france to Italy couple of years ago and got sick of slowing down to take it all in.

i really want to get over to Norway again :)

absolutely stunning country

the beers a bit expensive though

We just did a photography trip to Venice - cold and wet January, and I'm still amazed at the photographs we managed to create - we also set ourselves the challenge of our small p&s cameras only (mine is the G7) so that we were really pushing our boundaries.

The locals love being photographed and are very friendly, even/especially to the Brits. They even jump in front of the camera to get in your shot.

I went on a small group tour to South India with Explore many years ago. At the famous Rock Fort in Trichy (the one up the long flight of granite steps in the baking midday sun with a temple of Ganesh at the top) there was a young couple who had taken their first baby to be blessed by Ganesh. One of the women in the group ended up being photographed in the temple while holding the baby. Apparently it was to associate the baby from the start with wealth and privilege - which tells you something about how the people of South India (small, very dark) regard white westerners.

There are virtually no western tourists in the south. Even at Mamallapuram (world heritage centre, one of the last of the shore temples etc) the tourists were all Indian.

I'm not necessarily suggesting an organised tour, but this was a very good itinerary which you could probably follow independently.

Here's a little more info on what i'm after... It wont strictly be a photo trip, but i will be taking a lot of pics :) I am looking for a ~3 week trip, will be on my own, and unfortunately have a somewhat low £2k budget. The trip can't be in Europe, and needs to be somewhere that's relatively easy to get around. I'm in my 20s, so can still get on with hostels (just... though they have to be very good ones!). As i'm on my own, i really don't want to be going anywhere that's too desolate or remote :)

This is where i've been in the last few years:
- Canada (Toronto, Niagara, Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler)
- NYC
- Boston
- NZ (south island)
- Australia (only Melbourne and Sydney for a few days each!)

Photography wise i mainly want amazing scenery.

Why not try Turkey - fantastic country with varied locations (Istanbul, Cappadocia, Kas, etc)? Easy for travelling round (look at the Fez Bus for options) as well.

Thailand, Philipinnes, Sri Lanka...

Hong Kong would be ace but a push on your budget...

If you are thinking of Canada i would strongly advise travelling between Vancouver and Calgary, you will be able to do this in the 3 weeks and the sites are amazing. I lived in this area for 3 years so send me a PM if you need more details.

I live there now! Stop by if you do it :-).

I went to Malaysia last year, fantastic place especially when you go during their religious holiday period.

The country is filled with contradictions, you can walk down a single street and see highly paid business men and children begging for money, makes for some great shots if you are into photographing people.

Azores, never had a camera when I was there. amazing islands and people, volcanoes and caves, waterfalls, whales and dolphins from the beach and still a very traditional lifestyle. All just a few hours away.

Most definitely PERU, there is everything to capture mountains, jungle, desert, canyons, best coastal sunsets on the planet, tons of wildlife and historical places, and those people portraits :)

My two choices would be San Fransisco/Yosemite National Park and the Galapagos Islands.

I doubt either would suit your needs as described though!

namibia and do a safari

Interesting thread.

Ive been thinking about a trip for about 4-5 weeks with the Camera

I was thinking of a USA road trip, West to East Coast.......LA, Vegas, Colorado, Kansas, Tennessee (jack daniels distillery :)), Ohio, New York

It's impossible to take a bad picture in Venice.

It's also impossible to take a bad picture in Swansea.

Only one of these places should be considered for a trip of a lifetime.

Iceland went on a 4 day stay last November for my birthday loads to photograph
from waterfalls geysers to around Reykjavik the landscape is something else with a low setting sun giving fantastic shadows during the daytime

actually Turkey has a lot of great looking locations
even my mums "snaps" on her cheap compact look good !
