Yes
I'm looking to get myself 24-70L or 24-105L but can't just do the card swipe for whole amount and was looking for financing options. I know Jessops do it but anyone have had a chance to try it? Or perhaps you know other places which offers financing as well?

Your help is appreciated :thankyou:

Warehouse express offer finance I think.

As you say, Jessops do it and I'm not aware of anyone else offering interest free finance. Even if you pay a little extra at Jessops, the saving from interest should make it worthwhile (and having a shop to go back to if there's problems).

Thanks, I'll have a look.

That's the thing; it seems they the only who offers interest free for 12 month.

I almost went for it with the Canon 24-70mm F2.8L as even if you can afford it, it's always better to retain as much capital as possible (better in your bank than theirs!) plus it's good for your credit file.

However, I spotted the Tokina and went for that instead at a third of the price. Fair enough, I couldn't get finance but £300 is nothing for a lens of this quality so I was happy enough. They are quite hard to find but there is one going for £250 at the moment. I'm surprised at how much Tokina seem to be overlooked these days, probably because you don't really find them in Jessops etc. It's full-frame compatible as well :D

Here's a few shot with it:

How about taking out a 12 month interest free credit card? Tesco were from last Xmas up until at least July this year, don't nkow if they still are.

That way you can shop around for who to buy the lens off and still get 'finance'.

That's what I did with my Mac - paid it off over 9 months and got into the habbit of putting money away each month so now for Nov/Dec I'm going to take the equivalent money to the monthly payment and allocate it to my Christmas fund

Tesco 0% on any purchaces in the first 12 months (pay back as it suits you) and then just bought best price from Kerso.

GMAN i am very impressed with the sharpness in them.

I just don't like credit cards; don't even own one at the moment :whistling:

I have to agree with you as well; very tempting now.

Cheers.

There's perhaps a few things I'd like to point out regarding finance, just my opinion from my experience:

Firstly, it will be easier to get credit from Jessops than obtain a credit card as with Jessops it is basically being secured against an asset which can be repossessed, granted not as easy as a car or house as it's difficult to trace and trace a lens. A credit card, however, is unsecured debt so they may be a little more strict and every attempt is a hit on your credit file. The flip side of this is that by using a credit card you own the lens straight away.

Secondly, if you aren't good with money it's easy to start using the credit card for other things. Using the Jessops finance will control the debt for you.

Finally, credit cards have a nasty habit of remaining "live" even after you've closed it. You think it's shut down but it's not and the credit card details can still be used to make purchases so long as the expiry date hasn't been reached. I've done it on three credit cards before despite numerous letters and emails confirming they were shut.

The best and safest method is to scrap everything and get the Tokina! ;)

Cheers.

So you thought they were closed, even confirmed so in writing then still tried to buy stuff with them? Three times?
Have to wonder why lol, sorry but sounds rather odd.

To prove a point to the credit card companies.

They were still active on my credit file yet they assured me they were closed. The cards had been cut up a long time ago but I still had the details so I put a small online transaction through each one and confronted the credit card companies (MBNA, Goldfish and BOS).

Their initial response was that credit cards never close and are always active. The only way to effectively close them is to put a block on the card (but they still remain active). After much arguing they did eventually close them properly, it was strange though that all three companies acted in the same manner.

This was over 6 years ago and I'm sure things have changed now but I don't touch the things anymore so wouldn't now. No point anyway when there's Visa Debit which is accepted just like a VISA and has similar protection. :D

Thanks for your answers guys. I have decided to get Tokina after reading reviews and gman input with samples. It's the same money as I was planning to leave first deposit for Jessops. I still keep an eye on options for financing incase I won't like Tokina.
