Thinking of paying for a trip to the West End to watch The Lion King some time in the new year (Christmas present to myself and the girlfriend!)... Wanting somewhere that's fairly budget-y but in a semi-convenient place i.e. near a tube station with quick links to places around London!

What sort of budget?

MUST you stay west end..? If you were to stay somewhere further afield, but near a tube station, you would be ok presumably?

No, I needn't stay in the West End, just somewhere with good tube links i.e. not a billions stops away! :D

Seeing as you stated budget... there's a NEW travelodge just opened in Vauxhall. This is LITERALLY opposite vauxhall station. Brand new so relatively clean, good breakfast and probably good prices if you book in advance. Good views of the city too!

Otherwise there's loads.. HOTWIRE is good, but you can't guarantee proximity to the tube station.

Travelodge at Liverpool St is a reasonable option. Three minute walk from Liverpool St station, then 10 mins on the tube to the West End.

I got a great deal with late rooms at the holiday inn regents park also did a meal deal with that same show

This is mounting to be an expensive trip!

Hate travelodges if it has to be budget then Premier inns do a decent deal, especially if your staying out of central london but near to a tube station. We stayed in Hamstead in Sept after dropping my daughter off at uni for £49 for the night. I am always getting offers and if you can do a sunday then mid dec (15) then Tower bridge premier inn for £59 a night. Now that is good :) Fancy booking it myself now

What is it about them that you hate?

I find the rooms pretty sparse & boring the beds uncomfortable and if staying at a travelodge I always take my own pillows. Also I prefer the personal contact at premier inns there is always a member of staff on duty usually at travelodges I have stayed its all automated check in etc. Also I can usually find a premier inn at a better price than travelodge (Of course this is personal experience yours my differ :)).

Fair comment Steve although there is a full refit programme going on at the moment which will involve new decor in all the rooms and new beds that are even better than the purple ones. ;)

Tune hotel, or an easy hotel are the best budget hotels. Unfortunately going to London is never cheap I took he GF a few weeks ago and a day out cost me a weeks wages and we went home at the end of the day. Also that was without shopping!
