Hi All,

Just received my free 6x4 prints from Tesco Online Printing.

I was very disappointed with the quality of the prints. The prints seemed quite dull, lifeless, and flat. However the images on my laptop screen looked crisp and clean.

Who do you people use for your prints?

Thanks in advance

I'm usually jumping on the DSCL bandwagon of thumbs up but a word of warning when simple things go wrong.

Don't bother emailing as I've never had one answered yet.

I had a mouse mat missing from an order from the beginning of December, 4 phone calls later several promises and still nothing.

When they get it right their turn around and quality is excellent.

Loxleys for me they are fab, quality is amazing and customer service is excellent!!

Perhaps Photobox {online} or in-store at Jessops?
I've found they're both amazing quality when printing on Matte/Lustre finish.

I use Costco. They've never let me down and are very attentive. (Aberdeen branch for me)

A few times I have had a 12x8 turn up with a bend in the corner. Have phoned or emailed and always got back immediate response and a replacement sent next day. Overall excellent service, very reliable and good quality.

Loxley too are very good.

I'd never email anyone with a problem. Always phone and talk to someone.

Thank you for the replies people! I'll give Jessops and DSCL a try next time. Certainly not using any supermarkets again!

Don't be fooled by dscl's cheap prices, they are top quality.

I can't complain about my local asda - prints I got from there were spot on

It's Costco for me especially now that you can download printer profiles for each store. The last lot I got from them were the best colour match I'd ever had to my screen.

I print my own on dye sub printers and can print up 12x8. TBH the quality is as good if not better than most labs and I have full control. Pricewise its cheaper although does involve buying the printers. For large orders I use DSCL though.

I have recently switched from DSCL to Simlabs, the packaging is much better imo and the courier option gives you an hourly slot when it is going to be delivered.

Photobox not impressed with my last order (I received a you have not ordered from us for a while promo code). Placed my order for 50 6x4 prints to use for a promo I am running and the 1st batch had bleed at the top of the print, then the 2nd & 3rd run, after strong words the fourth print run finally resolved the issue. They have given me another 50 print credit but don't think I will be using them lol.

so does DSCL...

Havent had a problem with DSCL packaging, thought it was rather good. Whats different about simlabs packaging?

Just had a look and the prices seem very competitive, and the courier is cheaper.

They are using the same upload program as DSCL, might stick a few prints through them and see what they are like..

Tom I have had lots of problems with Royal Mail in my area, so always get my monthly orders couriered over now. I had used DSCL for years but had a few issues with bent corners & customer services was pretty poor of late.

I decided to give Simlabs a go as I have a trade account for there wedding albums which are top quality. The online order system is the same, same paper etc and quality to match DSCL, individual sized prints come in heavy duty cardboard envelopes placed in between a plastic sheet sandwich, all taped securely down.

The only down side for some I can see is the £5 minimum order value.

I have found DSCL aftersales spot on, on the few times I have had to contact them. Considering I have now been using DSCL for approx 3 years, ordering about 20 12in x 18in prints every month, I'm well impressed with their service and delivery with Royal Mail.

I had always been happy Barry until recently, I average around 60 prints a month, various sizes 18x12 down to 8x6" and they were not splitting the various sizes hence bent corners on a couple of occasions. The final straw was a recorded mail delivery taking 9 days, trying to get a tracking number proved a challenge & they said I should have used the courier option. I know that is in part down to RM but that is another issue, we are not even rural lol. Glad the service is good for you.

Well I am rural, living in the middle of nowhere in Wales, maybe that is why we have no issues with Royal Mail, we get to know all of our post/courier people who will just leave parcels whether signatures are required or not. When I have ordered different sizes, they always seem to put all of one size in a separate bag, which is then taped together within the corrugated packaging.

i have had problems with DSCL and royal mail, so always go the courier route. A little more expensive but peace of mind. On occasions ive been dubious about whether it was actually royal mail.

One thing i don't like about dscl is the automated system that notifies you your order has been dispatched, even when it hasn't. What are Simlabs notifications like?

Mind you saying that, all the best companies online that i use that i use have odd or no email notifications, DSCL, Lencarta, park cameras and Clifton.... lol

Thanks for the info Adam. I might put a test set through next week and see what happens. Cheers for the heads up

Glad I am not the only one Tom, if we were rural I guess all would be fine, the only way to get a good service is to pay for special delivery from my experience.

Notifications have always been spot on at each stage of the process and an email every time in the morning advising what time the courier will be delivery or you can schedule a different time. I am happy.

As others have said DSCL are great but I have changed due to various reasons. Give them a try and weigh up work works best for you.

It really depends on what you are after. Low price, or high end and choice.
