looking to buy a 50mm for my 1100d and wondering if anyone could recomend any place online or highstreet?brand new or second hand.thanks in advance

Try on here in the classified section. You will need to have contributed more posts and these must be real. As opposed to going in the photo viewing sections and just writing nice.... Great photo etc. the mods will notice.

Some good deals to be had on here. You can also put in a wanted item and people will look at it and maybe decide what the hell ill sell it.

Other than that there is MPB advertised at the top of this page. Sure someone else will be along soon with some places.

thats why i asked.because my post count wasn't good enough and have another month or so before i can view the classifieds.i don't know if i can wait that long

High Street prices depend very much on which shops you have in your town/city. The usual suspects for 2nd hand kit seem to be MBP (who advertise on the forum), Mifsuds and Ffordes (who both advertise in some of the magazines including Amateur Photographer.) Your local photographic retailers may also have a shelf or 2 of 2nd hand kit.

I'm after the same lens. There are plenty of second hands ones on ebay for around £65. There are also a few on there for a similar price that all come from the far east. I'm debating with myself whether or not I should take that gamble.

For a lens like the 50 f1.8 I would think ebay would be the best place after the classifieds on here. Make sure the seller has got a good feedback score and has sold some similar value or more expensive items. If they've sold a load of high price photo gear in the past you should be ok with them. Good luck.

nice one folks.i have been looking on ebay but thought id get advice before i buy.payday tomorow so might have to treat myself

Ffordes, Mifsuds, Pasrk Cameras, MPB are all companies I have used in the past.
Even if they haven't got the lens that you want listed on their website, I've always found its worth ringing them as they turn around their stock quickly and have stuff coming in and out all the time.

If you are buying one of the cheapest lenses available s/hand from the forum and that lens is imported I can't see that as a gamble.

I buy pretty much all my stuff from Amazon, theyre usually cheaper than most other UK dealers by quite a lot and youve got great backup too; easy to return and 24 hours a day Chat for customer service. Id personally stay well away from PC World/Currys, customer service is shocking and damn near impossible to return things, especially if youve bought online. I bought a tablet from them and when I opened it realised it was a lot smaller than expected, they wouldnt let me return it because id opened it so wasnt in new condition. I had to bring up a lot of distance selling regulations to get it sorted, not worth the hassle. I know youre asking about lenses but if you get a dud youll have a hard time explaining to them why its not as good as it should be, unless theyre a photographer too.

Oh and btw, Asda have 10% off at the moment so you can get your lens from them for £75.00 :)

Keep an eye on the Canon Outlet on eBay, they've been selling the 50mm for £49.99 on 2 recent occasions.

There are links in the Shopping/Bargains section.

I meant buying anything from the far east through ebay can be a bit of a gamble. I;ve head lots of stories of people being ripped off or been sent fake items.

If you follow the rules and use some sense as to who you deal with, it's no more of a gamble than any other online purchase.

As long as you pay with Paypal you, as the buyer, have a pretty airtight money back procedure against non-delivery.

that link does not work :(

It didn't work for me either, right click and open in a new tab/window and it works.

There seems to be a problem with links with some browsers.

If I just click the link it opens as

It is odd, but appears to be a problem in the forum software, I first saw it happening on another a couple of days ago.

Seems to be a conflict with certain browsers.

i am on my i pad and it comes up with that null at the top.

Sorry but this item is currently unavailable. Please check back at a later stage.

they are out of stock :( how much discount do TP memebers get?

PM Kerso from here or ask the question through the flashcamera site.

There are new 50mm f/1.8 lenses fro UK sellers on EBay.

They appear regularly on here. I got a very good copy on here and it performs perfectly.
