Noise should not be a problem with any well exposed shot processed using any of the leading raw processors.
on most of todays cameras up to Iso 1600 it is a non issue. And with many far beyond that.

Unfortunately I am not going to be shooting in a ideal situation

Big dark auditorium, lit by candle light, no tripod or flash allowed, must be discreet etc.

I am sure I can get some decent shots but would like to be prepared non the less

It's not freeware but I would just get Google Nik collection. That will also get you the excellent Dfine amongst other tools that may help you. Only £95 anyway.
