Just wondering your opinions for the best software to use for NR. i shoot at fairly high ISO with 5d mkii.

Thanx, i'll check them out. any other suggestions?

I use iso 100, exposed correctly = no noise.

lol there is that of course, although is that software or hardware hmmm ;)

I use noiseware, and there's a free version too! It's a standalone one rather than a plugin, but for a small number of files it's useful beyone belief (ISO 3200 is what I automatically shoot at for dimly lit sport/theatre and there's no grief).

It does make a bit of a greeny colour cast, but that's fixed very easily in PS, or I could probably stop it by playing with the settings!

There is too much said about noise reduction software, what people should be doing is exposing correctly and accept that noise is part of digital photography.

What about when you have to use ISO 3200 or 6400 to expose properly and get a high enough shutter speed? Some people will like the noise, others won't, and I don't see why it should be left there if it's pretty easy to get rid of it and the person taking the shot doesn't like it! :)

very good point!! i agree, as at least half of my shots come from theaters or concert, both low lighting. and although noise has its place in some photos, its not always desired!

I often duplicate the layer, one for colour at about 85% opacity and another for luminosity at around about 25-75% opacity. This way all the chroma noise is gone and the other luminance noise is reduced but still exists so it doesn't reduce the texture/details in the shot.

However, if I'm working fast I'll just boost the NR of colours is ACR/LR to around 40-50 and the luminance to about 20. Thta's a great quick fix for quick PP.
