Hi

What would you recommend for post editing software for a newbie, photo shop looks very daunting to say the least !

There are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube for whichever program you choose to use.
Lightroom can do lots, plus you can organise your photos with it. Elements is a bit easier to use than photoshop but it all depends how much you put in to it.

Yes i know i just wanted to know which was the most user friendly to start with as im obviously not going to jump in with both feet with photo shop

I use affinity photo for Mac and I really like it.
Not a big fan of photoshop or Lightroom.

Another vote for Lightroom.

Photoshop scares me with all the layers and filters. I find lightroom great to both keep my picture organised in a catalog and process them.

I'm also impressed by Affinity Photo. It's more of an alternative to Photoshop than Lightroom, so it's an excellent (and fast) image editor, but lacks LR's image organisation features (which will apparently be supplied by a future component of the Affinity suite), and is currently a less sophisticated raw processor.

I have just bought affinity on the pc and it's a great little bit of software . I still might give elements or Lightroom a look as well

Lightroom is very good. It's also handy that you can literally search for a tutorial on a specific thing to do and, chances are, someone's already made one (y)
Yes youtube comes in very handy for this !

I'm useless at PS. I downloaded a free 10 day trial of Affinity and really like it, give it a go for free.
What do people recommend for cataloguing though?

Lightroom is easy to use, its based on moving sliders for adjustments. Its also way more intuitive than PS will ever be.

Photoshop Elements is a good place to start.
Then when (if) you start shooting raw, move to Lightroom for the developing & cataloguing but carry on using Elements for pixel level editing. Move to Lightroom + Photoshop when that proves limiting.

At least, that's what I did.
