Hi Guys,
Im looking at a new macro for my D200 soon to be D300.
Am I right in thinking that the best lens available at the moment is the new Nikon 105mm VR? I know Ken Rockwell prefers the older model without the VR, what do you guys think?
Am I also right in thinking that the only difference between the 105mm and the 60mm micro is that you need to get closer to your subject with the 60mm?

Thanks for your help

You are spot on in both observations Oreo ...

I have the 105mm VR and would not swap it for a 60mm ... ... it's an ace bit of glass imhgo ... :D

PS ... I would hide your Av from Marcel ... :suspect: ... might drive him into a frenzied attack on your running title ... :naughty:

:p

Thanks for the info Venom.
Who is Marcel and why will he attack me haha?

I noticed you have a SBR1, how do you find this for macro shots, I currently just have an SB600. Do you use this solely for macro snaps?
Am I right in thinking you can control the SBR200 units straight from the D200, the SBR1 kit just includes its own controller and a ring? or is this necessary?

We have both 60mm and 105mm .... both are ace lenses! You get slightly more depth of field with the 60mm but have increased lens to subject distance with 105mm.

Don't forget Nikon have introduced a new 60mm Micro. Can't tell you what it's like though except it's a 'G' series, which means there's no aperture ring and has ED elements. And it has S wave motor so is likely to be a faster in focussing. Personally if it's macro stuff, I think AF is a bit of waste of time :( I prefer a little more control.
