Best Macro for D700

Hi ladies and gents.

I'm fairly new to Nikon and have settled on the 24-70mm and 200mm f2 lenses but am looking for a macro and coming from the Canon stable are a bit confused by the choice:

DX with a 60mm or fx with a 105mm

You advice would be most appreciated, thank you.
 
I'd be interested to know the way to go too. Canon have the pe65 - no eqiv for that apparently
 
Not sure why you would want to go with a DX lens - which is for APS-C sized sensors, so my take is the full frame 105 F2.8
 
I don't believe the 60mm is a DX lens (are you looking at the latest version or a previous model)? I may be wrong however I thought that all Nikon Macro lenses were Full-Frame compatible.
 
An old 24mm wide angle (must have 52mm filter thread), A Nikon Br-2a reverse ring and a couple of extension tubes :D

Cheap as chips :lol: This guy works it quite well.

I've been experimenting with a reverse 50mm and although it's quite a tricky technique to get the hang off, it works tremendously well.

I have owned a Sigma 150mm f/2.8 before and that is a superb lens, I also have the Sigma 180mm which is also fantastic, but I'm really liking how lightweight these reverse set ups are though. :thumbs:

If both 60mm and 105 mm work ff, are they comparable sharpness wise.

Wack, I'd also thought of the Sigma too, only heard good things about it.
 
There's also a Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro, which from a couple of test shots seems every bit as sharp as their 105mm one

Ar, amongst playing a in ska punk band, I used to work at Fair Deal Music on the Small Brook Queensway for just under four years, worked in Solihull at Express Music and also the library theatre as a lighting and sound tech.

Where about's are you working?
 
Tamworth, so a bit on the outskirts. But my black country dictionary helps as a number of my colleagues herald from that way.

You have not heard an accent of charm until you have heard the black country accent!

:lol: Up 'Tammuth' as my mate says, indeed the black country accent has a certain floating romantic chirp, hmmm unmistakable :lol:

The 70mm Sigma Macro is also razor sharp.

OP - basically you've got a lot of lenses to choose from....

Nikon 60mm/105mm
Tamron 90mm
Tokina 100mm
Sigma 50mm/70mm/105mm/150mm/180mm

I've tested the Sigma 70mm and have owned the Nikon 60mm and Sigma 105mm lenses - all very capable. I now have a Tamron 90mm lens.

Why have you ended up with the Tamron, is it better than the others?

What is the focussing like of the VR 105mm v old 105mm everyone?

What other lenses do you have for your D700?

Duh, I should look in your camera bag. How do you rate the 28-75mm on it? I used on it Canon FF and got great results!
 
The Tamron is an excellent lens on the D700. I got mine as an ex-demo from Intro (the UK distributor for Tamron); the example I have is very sharp. :)
 
Nikon 105 F2.8 AFS VR is my favorite, its very sharp + VR is very useful
