I am going to butterfly house soon, and was wondering what the best lens to take with me. I have a Nikon 70-300vr and was wondering if this will be adequate or would I be best hiring a macro lens for the day?. Any advice appreciated.

You'll get the best shots with a macro lens but it takes some getting used to and to get a decent depth of field you also need a tripod or some sort of flash set up.

Having said that you can get some decent shots with a good zoom lens so I'd be inclined to stick with what you know for the moment.

Going from a cold outside into a warm butterfly house will steam up the lens so allow plenty of time.

Martin, you asked this exact question yesterday here and got numerous replies, did you not like the responses?

I put this thread up on Thurs and got no replies so tried another forum, but thanks for the replies appreciated.
