Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a portfolio app for the ipad?

Something with a professional look and feel to hand over to clients to either show them their own photos from a shoot or my previous work before making bookings.

Cheers, Dan

What's wrong with the Ipad slideshow?

Yeah, I agree with admirable, use iPad's own Photos, and use the slideshow. Actually....

What I do is save a pick of my graphic design work on CorelDRAW and saved them in JPG format, then place the JPGs into a folder of its own (folders on PC when sync to iPad becomes albums on iPad), rename the filenames to numbers to ensure they are in right order, and sync it to iPad. I also pick any photos I need to show, and copy some into a folder of its own too, also number the filenames to ensure they're in order I want.

It's a lot easier. Open the iPhotos app, tap the album you want to show, and hand it over, they can just swip any as they like. Downloaded apps may have its own ways of displaying the next image, for example, what if the app you downloaded have a button you need to tap on to view the next page, but whoever you're showing is more used to swipping images? Whoever you wish to show your photos to, supposing they do have their own iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, or if not having their own but did try out any of those iDevices (trying out a friend's iPad for example) so they are familiar with iPhotos on iOS, iPad's own photos, but are not familar with any portfolio apps you downloaded.

Yep the ipad does have decent slideshow capabilities but was looking at something like Foliobook which looks very sleek and can be customised a bit more.

I use Portfolio Pro, downloads albums from Flickr and stored on the ipad :)

So why not get Foliobook :thinking:

How about because someone on here might have used it and found it was a pile of crap?

This forum would be a pretty quiet place if people just went with their initial thoughts...... and the tripadvisor website wouldn't exist!!!!

Cheers everyone for your worthy input, will take a look at suggestions!

Decided to opt for 'Portfolio Pro'. Really impressed, nice feel and simple edit modes.

Fairly cheap and some great reviews and feedback.

Good YouTube tutorials too

I use Portfolio for ipad, here's a link to a demo on Youtube:

I don't get the image editing functions in that... surely if you're putting a portfolio together, the images should be finished already? :)

I just create an album in the iPads "Photos" app. After all... it brings them up full screen, and you swipe left/right to view them. What else do you need from a portfolio??

Have to agree.

Seems like a lot of steps just to put pics somewhere to view.

Hi, I create all of my Portfolios in Apples own "Keynote". You can virtually do anything you want with that, titles, frames, notes, transitions, covers, different colour/style pages, and a whole lot more. I think it looks far more professional and is more adaptable than any of the other apps mentioned.

If you add Apples "Pages" as well then there's nothing that I can see that comes close. It does start of a little more expensive if you purchase them both, but you usually get what you pay for.

Sure it can take a bit longer to compile something but like most things you only get out of something with the effort that you put into it.!!!

So what benefit does all that effort give compared to iPhoto? I am struggling to see it!

The portfolio pro I decided on is very customisable compared to the usual photo environment of the ipad. I like how I have my logo and website details on view in the albums.

The main reason I decided on it however is I don't even need to upload any photos to my ipad. The portfolio copies from my flickr account and brings across all folder and file names too.

Any photos or sets/albums I don't wish a client to see you can hide them without permanently deleting.

That answers that question (above) Lol. I just got it last night but have not had a chance to mess with it yet. Looks good from the reviews.

Hi, I've never used iPhoto probably because when I first compiled a portfolio on an iPad it was the first incarnation of iPad, and iPhoto was not and is still not compatible with them. I've upgraded now to the latest version of iPad and really see no reason to change.

Correct me if I'm wrong though but isn't iPhoto Mainly designed for Editing and Sharing photos of which I'm quite happy with what I'm already using, whereas Keynote is for presentations of all sorts of things. I maybe wrong but that's the way I see it.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi all,

I'm after an iPad app so that I can set up a basic slideshow from my dropbox photos. Can anyone recommend an app?

Have you looked at the iPad photo's app on your iPad? Would that not do it for you?

I use 'Portfolio' on my iPad. Mainly because the photos are high quality even when zoomed in to 100%. I don't know how it is now but when I bought the app the quality just wasn't there in the photos app.

Also with portfolio you can have various albums and make them visible/invisible when you like.

I have some wedding sample albums, newborn albums and family albums. When I'm showing a client I will hide the albums that aren't applicable to their interests.
