Hi

Would be very interested to learn what in your opinion and based on experience is the best free editing software out there please?!

Many thanks!!

Chris

Welcome to TP.

Based on my experience I would say Paint.net.

However what is best for you depends on what you want to do.
Picasa3 is quite basic and simple to use but does what it does well.
The Gimp has lots of users and is very popular.

Download more than one and have a play :)

Thanks very much! I guess I'll just try a few and see what works! Thank you.

If your camera is from a major manufacturer like Nikon or Canon, you should find an editor on the CD which came with it. Failing that you can download it from their website.

Nikon's free editor is called View NX2

I think a lot depends on what editing you have in mind, for very basic ajustments I'd look at picassa, but if you intend more complex ajustments, or ajusting parts of the image I'd go for Gimp (fairly similar to the older versions of photoshop in many ways)

I agree, GIMP is very powerful if you can get past the rubbish UI...

That's why I went for Paint.net, I found it much easier to use when I was starting out.

I find Photoscape the simplest editor. Its features are limited compared to others, but it is very easy to use.

Thanks so much everyone! Will try the software that comes with the Nikon I'm getting next week first - see how that goes before trying any other of your fab suggestions!

Thanks again!
