Don't want to have to pay for anti virus ,anybody me tell what they use .. cheers:thumbs:

Avira Personal Edition. AVG is way too bloaty these days and doesn't get all threats. No experience of Avast however.

AH..... my free trial with them just expired

just get another serial number ( its free) and away you go (again)

avira, uses so little resources my little eee doesn't feel it and it's pretty good too. Free version doesn't scann pop email though, but not a problem if you just use hotmail or the like

Never bothered with free AV.

I just a 3 licence Panda AV & let the neighbours have a copy.

It works out around £ a year

If you bank with barclays and use their online banking you can have kaspersky for free...

Avast, keeps quiet and doesnt bug me, unlike AVG which disturbs you multiple times a day to the point where you'd rather go without an anti-virus (as i did for about 4 weeks, wouldnt recommend it though lol)

The free ones are just that ....FREE....they do offer some protection but nothing like you get if you buy them we simply use the one designed for Windows Vista and XP ....onecare by microsoft and its cheaper than the leading brands and we dont get any nasties.....£35 and we can install it on 3 PCs

what gets me with Anti virus is i have 3 p.c`s two with anti virus , one is avast and one is avg . they have both been hit . we have one p.c without any anti virus . it used to have avg on it and was hit .

i restored it without any anti virus and in the two year since it hasn`t been hit . could just be lucky . or is bill gates linked with all anti virus company`s as well .

i can see a room full of people working on a virus to send out with the room next door working on a cure .

why don`t mac`s get hit

ok conspiracy theory .

i`ll bet my other p.c gets hit now :bonk:

I've used both Avast (currently on my x64 system) and AVG in the past, never had any problems with either!

AVG

Best AV? In my line of work I am asked this all the time. Frankly there is no such thing because any AV is only as good as it's last update. Many of my customers become my customers because they haven't checked their AV is up to date (connections to auto-update servers can fail for many reasons). They or their kids (or kids friends!) then visit dodgy websites or use p2p (or torrents) software, download pirated software and become heavily infected in no time. Having a security suite installed is important, but it doesn't mean that because you do, you can then take risks.
Besides, malware/spyware/drive-by-attacks etc are pretty much the top of the threat lists now and can easily by-pass basic AntiVirus (only) software.

Having said that, I use AntiVir Premium which is low on resources, unobtrusive and effective (as any solution can be). But I also take care when using the web by avoiding the obvious places ;)
