Don't think I'm knocking the D3...far from it, it's stunning. I just have two questions?

1) Has any other manufacturer released a Pro body this year ?
2) How can they make an award for 08-09 whe there's still 16 months left ?

It's like magazines - August's edition is out in June.
 
Disregarding the EISA awards, I find all the magazine annual awards totally laughable. They proudly proclaim that the Acme Snapshooter is the "camera of the year as voted by you, the reader", when 99.9999% of the readers have never even held one, let alone used one. Same for all the other categories. They have voted on perhaps reading a review or two, or wanting one themselves. Anyway, who are these people who vote for these magazine awards?
 
I'm a little confused as to how this can be the European camera of the year.

I can understand Manchester United being European champions, because they won a tournament which is restricted to European clubs.

I could understand the Fiat Cinquecento being European car of the year, because it's made in Europe and only sold in Europe.

But how does a piece of equipment which is made in Japan and sold in identical form all over the world come to be the best in Europe? I mean, what's the point?

It's a pathetic bit of marketing.

In sports such as football, they judge the player of the year 2008 at the *end* of the 2008 season. It doesn't matter that the first time he's introduced to the crowds as the player of the year 2008 will be in the 2009 season. It's an honour that stays on his CV forever and everybody know what it means.

But they always judge the car/camera/paperclip of the year 2008 at the *start* of 2008. What they mean is that it was the best car/camera/paperclip launched in 2007. But if they called it that, once you get half way through 2008 you might start wondering whether there might perhaps have been a better car/camera/paperclip launched in early 2008, so the award wouldn't count for so much. Cunning, eh?

It's the same with monthly magazines. The magazines that hit the streets next week will be the *October* issues. That's so that when you see them on a magazine rack any time in September you'll think they're current. If you saw a magazine on say Sept 20th and it said September, you might think the October edition would be out in a few days so you might as well wait for that. But since it says October, you'll buy it. Cunning again.

I wonder how many retarded 5-year-olds they need to come up with these brilliant ideas?

... and the European Advanced Camera is the Olympus E-3, and the European Camera is the Sony a350, and the European Consumer Camera is the Canon EOS 1000D.

Seems like they have included each manufacturer... purely a marketing exercise.
 
More like a back slapping exercise for forking out so much in advertising revenue - don't forget the nice gala dinner that goes with the awards.....job there for someone to photograph them! (No thanks).

But the rules state...
10th of September previous year until 10th of September year of the Award

Period in between products must have been appeared on the market. However products to be awarded have to be available for detailed test evaluation before the 1st of June.

If the D3 was launched in August then it doesn't qualify.

Again, I'm not knocking it....it's a stunning piece of kit and sets a challenge to Canon for their next 5D or whatever they're going to call it.

I dunno when it was released, I'm sure it was later than the mk3 although they were announced in the same month, I don't think it would have made any difference.
It's all complete tosh flannel anyway, no different from any other magazine page filler.

It's that that annoys me too!

It's just like cars, get to february, and you get all the adverts saying '2008 car of the year' when it's only a month in!
